The Campgrounds at Fort McAllister State Park is well laid out with spacious pull thru sites. Restrooms are clean and well kept. This is 10 miles off I-95 so it makes an enjoyable overnight stopover going north or south. Plan on taking a hike, do some geocaching, tour Fort McAllister, do the Junior Range program. You could easily spend 2... More

Every campground is well situated - far away from other campers and with nice views. Some spots are tucked into pine forest - others front on marsh. Nice park headquarters, lovely trails. I will defiinitely return.

Nice big sites, most are pull thru, electric and water with one dump station on way out. They let you pick from available sites based on your size rig. The one of two bath houses near us was newer and nice and clean with one regular shower and one h/c shower, and 3 toilets, it was also heated. Good water... More

You don’t have to wish upon a star or wait for a cow to jump over the moon for a beautiful view. You only have to travel to Fort McAllister State Park. You can visit with the Garrison Cat or laugh as your dog pulls you through the fort from one lovely historical spot to another. A soul can catch... More

Traveled with small camper trailer. When we arrived to campground with my reservation we were told they had no more RV sites so given a tent site instead. Good thing I have a tiny camper. Brought our kayaks- took them off the dock to find "shark tooth island." Found the low tide sand bar but found no shark teeth. Campground... More

There was a tremendous loss of trees and work is still being done, but the river and marsh are still pretty; the staff and hosts still so very nice. I enjoyed camping there.

I visited Fort McAllister with my dog and walked the Redbird Trail, a 3-mile loop into the piney woods of a hummock rising from a salt marsh. The trail was dry in early autumn, but I noticed several spots on the second half of the loop (beyond the observation platform) that flood in wet weather. The old fort, which guarded... More

This fort is incredibly unique in that it is an earthwork fortification, not your typical brick and mortar style fort that one is used to. Some are confused, thinking this is just remnants of a fort that once stood, but no. This is the fort itself, as it was designed and I had learned that earthwork forts were able to... More
