What a wonderful spot to explore the early history of our country. This fort, though mostly in ruins, speaks volumes of our early settlers. The staff here is, of course, most informed. Hope you go when the woodcarver is there. His work is beautiful and he can share much about the history of the fort's active days. The trees are... More

I have been here at least three times over several years, and returned just recently. If you love colonial history, this is a must stop. Fort Frederica was an outpost founded by General James Oglethorpe, the founder of Savanah and the colony of Georgia. Frederica was intended to be a barrier to any Spanish incursion into Georgia. In 1742 the... More

I know it's "history," but you can't beat the surroundings. You can do as much or as little as you want, and it is a great place to take kids and turn them loose to run and use up some energy. This is a great side of the island you might miss but shouldn't.

This was a nice little stop. The lady in the main building was very nice and informative. Watch out for ants they are everywhere on the walk. There are several interesting artifacts in the main building, also a film you can watch on the history of the place if interested.

The history of this monument is well explained - an interesting place to visit though not always easy to locate on a map.

Our favorite place on all Saint Simons. It was quiet beautiful and relaxing. The hanging moss on the trees was what you envision every time you read a book a book about the south.

Great historic site and beautiful scenery. Go at your own pace - you can spend 1 hour or 3. Take time to envision just how it was in it's day.

Definitely a must-see for history buffs! This is a National Park which was a British military town/fort in the mid-1700s. Extraordinary archaeological excavation allows you to visualize the town, its inhabitants, and the military personnel who protected the fort. Signage throughout the area explains the various ruins and their functions. Be prepared to walk (on level ground) for a minimum... More

Had a wonderful time visiting this national monument and seeing how history was made in the area. Viewing the ruins of the houses and reading the sign about each ruin, you can get a feel of just went on at the site during this period. Not much of the fort exist, but with what remains you can get an idea... More
