Bigland Hall Equine Group is a horse riding school located in Backbarrow. We offer lessons that are suitable for anyone and all ages. We teach all year round and in a very nice indoor arena, so we can give lessons rain or shine. We do both group and private lessons, and classic dressage lessons for medium to advanced riders. We have a pony club that connects children with ponies for a ride, looking after the horses, or grooming. We also offer trekking lessons and hacking. We do full day, half day, and two hour long hacks in different locations. These rides are held in a variety of different areas.

We booked a horse ride for our 3 year old son whilst we were on holiday. We arrived quite early so sat in the car for a while and watched. There is an older woman who is horrendous to staff (and guests to be honest!) and if I worked there I wouldn't last a day. So rude and was constantly... More

I visited this centre on 25th June with 3 girlfriends as part of a weekend in the Lakes. Only two of us had prior riding experience and the others were complete novices. The staff at the centre were fantastic. They matched rider to horse perfectly and ensured we had all the correct gear. We had a period of patient instruction... More

I've gone on three hacks with Bigland Hall: a 2-hr hack, a 3-hr hack, and a full-day hack from Backbarrow to Coniston, and I cannot recommend Bigland Hall enough! Ilona was my guide all three times, and she is wonderful. Friendly, kind, interesting, and patient. My first 2-hr hack with them was the realization of a 30-year dream to ride... More

I've wanted to take my Children (4 & 9) on a Pony Trek for some time, with the school being shut for elections the opportunity arose on May 5th. I booked a trek at Bigland Hall Equestian Centre over the phone a week in advance. I paid £25 per person for a 30-45 minute trek, but the whole experience actually... More

My daughter started going to pony club after an introduction to horses via a friends party. She's simply hooked. Pony club is a lovely place with nice and jolly staff and lots of nice dogs about. The staff are dedicated to making sure children of all ages can look after and ride ponies in a safe manner. They are taught... More

One adult and two kids, aged nine and six - none experienced riders and the youngest hadn't ridden before. The horses were calm and placid to ride and the staff couldn't be more helpful on the lead reins trek we did. They supply boots and hats and our little group of six had three staff with us. Would definitely say... More

This was one of the best experiences during our weeks stay in the area. None of our party had any riding experience and booked the 40 min lead rane ride, this included my 8 year old daughter. It was totally amazing, with lovely staff, we loved it that much that we booked to do it again. The second time my... More

I booked a half hour lesson for my boyfriend and a hour long hack for both of us. I chose to use this stables as their website was really well run and presented a warm and welcoming experience. While we were on time, my boyfriends lesson started half an hour late. The lesson itself was well run by a young... More

My daughter and I, fairly experienced riders, went on the 3 hour fell ride. We had well-behaved, suitable horses and a friendly, helpful guide. There were plenty of canters over some quite rough ground which clearly the horses were used to and enjoyed. The views were superb, helped by perfect weather. A few road crossings and a little riding on... More

I am an experienced rider with an interest in dressage and had a lesson a few years ago with Sheila Myers which I really enjoyed. This was at their previous location before they moved to Backbarrow. I recently returned for another classical lesson with Sheila and had the best day ever. This is a brilliant experience for anyone who wants... More
