We had a lovely hike around this largely ruined 14th century castle. As other reviewers have said a lot of work is needed to restore it further but in fairness there is quite a lot of work ongoing at the moment too. That is why we, unlike the reviewer who gave it only 1 star here, have no problem with paying 7 zloty to get into the park and another 4zl to climb the tower for the panoramic view. It's cheap at the price anyway and if it aids restoration, then all the better. The Castle stands on top of a steep hill and there's a rough gravel and earth path up to it. It's not a long climb or a hard one from the entrance way. There are lovely views of the countryside around it from up top. The most obvious ruin is the Round Tower which was used in its day as a prison. At the time of our visit it was the round tower that was being worked on so although you can see it, you can't climb it or go right up to it. Across from it is a square shaped keep that you can climb for the aforementioned 4 extra zloty. It's well worth doing that as it gives the best view of the site. Plenty of eateries and shops at the base to rest up or get a cold drink, plenty of parking too. Definitely well worth a visit in my opinion, we gad a lovely hour or two here.

this picture doesn't give the the idea what a fantastic scenery it is! It's true, that these are only the remnants of a great Medieval castle, but wandering inside you get the possibility to imagine how big it might have been; how welll composed into natural rocks; how welll situated on the rocky hills! Not to mention the spectacular views from the tarrace on the top of the tower! A great place for a picnic, or as a starting point for a walk in the surrounding rocky hills.

Beautiful set of ruins. Large parking lot with a number of cafes and restaurants. Located on top of a hill, the trail is a little steep and slippery in some places. Nice views from the top. There is an observation tower with a telescope.

You need to visit the castle of Olsztyn when you are here. In very good condition and with a museum of different exhibitions. Beside you have a perfect view from the tower. Prices are OK.

Zamek w Olstynie is a big and very beautiful castle located in the Eagle-Nest trail, between Czestochowa (he most important pilgrimage place in Poland) and Krakow (the historical capital of Poland). In fact, it is one of some castles located in this route, in the southwest of Poland. It is a very well-conserved and restaured castle in ruins, where you can do a little walk (more or less 15 minutes by walk) from the town Olstynie to arrive to the top of the castle. The views are very nice and the ruins, too. In fact, it is an excellent castle to begin the Eagle-Nest trail by car. Moreover, we came here at November and the entrance was free (we supposed we have to pay in high season, because there is a closed ticket office). (See also Mirow Castle, Zamek Bobolice, Ogrodziniec Castle and Pustynia Bledowska)
