Bjorn West was a group of resistance fighters during the German occupation in 1940-45 and strikes a chord with the older generation of Norwegians at whom this museum is aimed. It is housed in the building that was used as accomodation by the senior German officer at the time so has some relevance however the assumption is that you are already conversant with what went on at Bjorn West. Opening hours are limited to the relatively short tourist season, and when we visited we had the museum to ourselves. To get there you need a car, and having got to Matre it is well worth a trip off the main road to Storedalen Fjellstove which is where the resistance were based, and is worth the deviation for the scenery alone.
