Overview
More
Fort Pulaski National Monument has one of the best preserved nineteenth century masonry fortifications in the United States. It was also the site of a major artillery duel during the Civil War that saw the first major use of rifled artillery in battle. You can tour the fortress, see living historians bringing the past to life, or watch an artillery demonstration that really immerses visitors with the sights and sounds of conflict. The monument however, is more than just a fort. We have over 5000 acres of pristine saltwater marsh, one of the largest concentrations of marsh along the coast of Georgia. Combine that with miles of trails and you have a great way to get away from our cultural history and surround yourself with the natural beauty of Cockspur Island, the heart of the monument.

My bucket list. USA forts along the coast. Rich history, lots of cannons good tour guide included. Walking and read it yourself if you like. Swells the pride inside of American history up close and very personal!

We learned a lot about the fort and its role in the War of 1812, and the Civil War. They provide guided tours for a very good price.

The uniqueness of this fort was the tunnels. I found it interesting in the up/down, walk through a tunnel and end up on another side of the wall. It was like a mini maze. I thought it was quite funny that a couple of young...More

We enjoyed taking the trail to see the Cockspur Lighthouse and to get a little exercise. We were interested in learning and enjoyed seeing the fort. The gift shop staff was very knowledgeable and helpful.

We were there during a rain storm & were still able to explore the fort while it was raining and stay dry. It was really cool to see such an important part of our country's history.

The fort is very interesting. You can walk around the entire fort. The underground area was cool and also seeing the guns and bunk rooms. It is alot of walking so wear good shoes.
