Tybee Beach Ecology Trips, conducted on Tybee Island, Georgia, by marine biologist Dr. Joe Richardson, are fun and educational experiences for all ages. Typical two-hour beach trips include: high and low tide beachcombing, exploring tide pools and sandy intertidal habitats, pulling a 50 foot beach net, and learning information about the animals you find. Trips are scheduled for families and small groups, scout groups, schools, adult tours, and other groups. Much more than just a beach trip!

My husband and I went out with Dr. joe this morning. He was extremely knowledgable and friendly. He did an excellent job of explaining things in terms that we could understand. He is very enthusiastic, and his love of the ecosystem is obvious. He provides everything you need, and moves at the perfect pace. No question is dumb, and he... More

Dr. Joe facilitates a wonderful trip for everyone. He provides all the exploration gear you would need. His most valuable resource is his vast knowledge of all those sea creatures!

This tour was a hit! Our family reunion group included almost 20 people ages 3-70+. Dr. Joe kept everyone active and engaged. We enjoyed finding the creatures and then listening to Dr. Joe tell us all about them. A definite must do on Tybee!

This was a fun and educational experience for my 12 year old son and I. We had a great time searching for "sea creatures." Dr. Joe is very knowledgeable and really enjoys what he does. His enthusiasm rubs off on everyone which helps everyone get involved. My son even stepped outside his comfort zone and held and touched various sea... More

We have 3 boys 8, 6 and 5 and they were hesitant at first, but had the time of their lives. This will be a recurring tour for us when we come back to Tybee. Dr. Joe is extremely knowledgable and great with kids. I highly recommend it! We all learned so much and got to see a lot of... More

Enjoyed the beach was clean and easy to get to. Just be ready to pay for parking anywhere you stop in town or at the beach doesn't cost much it is just annoying to have to keep track of the time.

This was so much fun!! We took our 6 year old with hopes he would enjoy learning about the ocean and it's creatures. We were not disappointed!!! He followed Dr. Joe all over and brought home so much information and had a blast doing it! I think we may even do it again next time we're in town.

What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday morning! Both adults and kids (9 and 15) really enjoyed learning about life on Tybee and getting a real hands on experience! Dr. Joe was a wealth of information. Fun fact - while we were wrapping up, a student of his from over 30 years ago came up to him and said... More

Excellent outing with a superb guide. Dr. Joe is knowledgeable, personable, and above all, enthusiastic. Everyone had a memorable time. Highly recommended. Suggestion: Bring a water bottle. And, water shoes of some type. At least flip-flops.

Family of 6 going on an ecology tour. I am pretty certain that we will like this trip since most of the kids like to touch animals and learn new things....it was great. We found blue crabs, horseshoe crabs, hermit crabs and loads of fish. Touced a sea anemone. We found a jelly fish. The whole group had a great... More
