This is one that I could take or leave if we were planning a return visit. The story of bringing water for the museum up from the gulf by train that the Bus Tour Guide was almost better than the actual aquarium itself! The facility shows it's age - not that that is all bad. Seeing the Belugas was a... More

My wife and I went for a few days to Chicago and it was my first time. I had a blast at this place. Loved all the different sea creatures they had especially the otters and seals. Very cute! I would highly recommend this place when visiting Chicago!!

We visited the aquarium, the largest indoor marine mammal facility in the world, with an open mind. Little did we know that we would be greeted by this sight: the white beluga whales in tanks what we perceived to be inadequate for the mere size of these majestic creatures, who can dive up to 1000 feet in the wild. At... More

This is a great aquarium! We trekked through the cold cold wind to get here, and once inside, we were delighted with every corner we turned. I especially liked the jelly fish tank, and got some really cool photos!

Tip: If you're a tourist wanting to do touristy things, pick up a Citypass $98 per adult. Gives you VIP entry to some of the exhibitions on the museum campus and also includes a few other places. Well worth it. The Shedd is brilliant. It is home to all different types of aquatic life. Don't need a full day for... More

We love museums, as a family, as well as botanical gardens, national parks, etc., and have designated expenses for memberships through the years in the variety of locations we have lived. In my opinion, the Shedd Aquarium is the best of the best in museum aquariums! The special exhibits are worth paying extra for, especially when the proceeds go to... More

I wish we could have stayed longer! So much to see and the staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. This is definitely the best aquarium we have been to!

We visit Chicago at least twice a year, and we always visit The Shed Aquarium with our 3 children ( ages 7 and under). There is still a lot to see each time - and never a dull moment.

Kids love it, it is a very old world aquarium. The large tanks and the dolphin show are excellent. A little pricey for a family.

Staying in South Loop

Neighbourhood Profile
South Loop
This downtown neighborhood offers a variety of activities ranging from cultural to sporting. If you happen to visit during football season, you may bump into a boisterous few fans on their way to a Bears game on the southernmost tip of South Loop. On the flip side, Museum Campus offers cultural and educational experiences in its planetarium, museum and aquarium, all situated along the lakefront. Grant Park is one of Chicago’s premier locations for green space and recreation with views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. Take a stroll down memory lane in the historic Prairie District where you can enjoy views of old historic homes. Restaurants, theaters, and clubs are spread throughout the neighborhood along with a collection of burger joints along Michigan Avenue just across from the park.
