First visited [from Sydney Australia] this Chicago Architectural Icon, a Neo-Renaissance building, when it traded as a pioneering Emporium, Marshall Fields. With the passage of time, it was displaying signs of fatigue. Macy's takeover was resisted by the local bourgeoisie but according to an insider, they were NOT spending any money in the store to save it. Macy's takeover boosted... More

Just a great place to window shop and just going through the doors of the store and looking forward to the Christmas theme windows it a Chicago staple.

We love going to CHicago during the holiday season in December, when we can see all the decorations and window displays with our children. Clean and great Macy's

Especially at Christmas, it is beautiful. You can still get the Marshall Fields candy in the basement. The Walnut Room cafe is wonderful after seeing Santa. It has been a family tradition all my life.

Macy's on State Street is a nice store, but not above average. It does not have the class and charm that the old Marshall Fields had. It was extremely crowded in December, especially if you wanted to go to the restaurants on the 7th floor (which don't take reservations that time of year.) A little disappointed when trying to recreate... More

Visited Macys to shop. Loved the sale and the building is beautiful. Personell was nice and friendly without being pushy. Could browse and use the time as we wanted. Fitting rooms could use an upgrade. Well worth a visit if you appreciate the medium range brands.

During our Thanksgiving visit to Chicago, we made it a point to visit the Macy's on State Street which formerly the home of Marshall Field's Department Store. Since it was the day after the holiday, the store was packed with many shoppers but not overly crowded. This Macy's has more of an up-scale feel to it. I saw many brands... More

Lets face it the glory days of the department store are long gone, and Macy's is a little worn around the edges. There are still some wonderful people that work there but they are getting harder to find. There is still plenty to purchase and so many sales that it is hard to keep up. DIsplays can be a litle... The tree was stunning as always...but was leaned more towards adult than children. It was formal, more fairy feeling. Must go to the holiday decoration level, behind the crystal china department and enter Christmas Wonderland. Fabulous decorations, Christmas music playing...a great way to get into the holiday mood! A must do if in Chicago during Holiday Season.
