Wedella advertises itself as the original cruise and they run a tight ship. Dave the docent (although not voluntary) had a compelling narrative of the river and its architectural history, but I still doubt his claim that the Chicago fire was caused by a meteor...More

The amazing views and photo opportunities are worth the price of admission alone, but the friendly staff and informative tour is the real icing on the cake. Our host, Molly I believe, was very entertaining and full of information. Even as a Chicago native I...More

The 90 minute tour was a great way to see parts of Chicago along the river and parts of Lake Michigan. The guide was very knowledgeable but their were problems with his microphone that were annoying.

It was a beautiful evening and the cruise sets off at 5.30 just before dusk. You get a commentary on leaving the river up to the lake which is just about right - not too mush and informative. By the time you return it's dark...More

We took an afternoon river cruise, and our guide was fantastic. There's a bar downstairs that serves drinks and snacks. It's a good way to relax your feet and learn about Chicago's history.

Brittany was informative and spoke loud enough and clear enough to hear. We had a full boat on a beautiful day so that made it extra night. You could see from where ever you sit ( we were on upper deck). Takes about 2 hours...More

Magnificent Mile
Over 400 stores pack the concrete along Michigan
Avenue, the eight-block stretch known as Magnificent
Mile. This area between Oak Avenue and the Chicago
River is more a shopping paradise than a full-out
neighborhood. For prime upscale shopping, this is the
place to go. It’s busy, energetic, and packed with
shoppers. You'll also find hundreds of restaurants and
dozens of hotels, all on the mid- to high-end scale.

I would say anything before noon, as the tour boats aren't that full at that time and there aren't so many tour operator boats around the river. I believe the evening tours around sunset are amazing too!

Most kids love the lake! The Chicago River Architecture Tour is great, but I do believe that most children want to get on the lake.
