Celebrated Easter Sunday Mass at this beautiful Church

A stunning Church. The members of this parish could not be more welcoming and kind to us visitors. A must see!

I attended Our Lady of Sorrows elementary school from the second grade through eighth grade graduation. Every school day prior to the commencement of classes we would attend Mass at OLS. As a child I would stare up at the magnificent art work on the ceiling , counting the tiles as if counting sheep, somewhat bored , somewhat awed. As... More

I came here on Saturday, April 30th, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of this church's elevation to the title of Basilica by Pope Pius XII. As soon as I entered, I though I was in Italy! Believe me, I own and operate a Catholic Pilgrimage apostolate! Visiting grand and historical churches and shrines is a great part of my business!... More

The architects of this spectacular building, inside and out, were Henry Engelbert, John F. Pope and WiIliam J. Brinkman. It was built 1890-1902. On January 8, 1956, the church received the honorific title of Minor Basilica from Pope Pius XII who in his Apostolic Proclamation declared it the "foremost Church in America and most important Church in populous Chicago teeming... I was in wowed. This Church is a must see. The stations around the church are stunning. They have pamphlets around the church. I picked up one. It was a Novena, among other literature that they have set out. The Pieta Chapel has a prayer room where you can sit and pray. It use to be the former Baptistery. The... More

First saw the Basilica during Open House Chicago in October. Came back for a 1 1/2 hour tour given by Father Frank for our group of 8. He did an outstanding job incorporating Chicago history, Catholic history and the church history into an understandable, interesting story. This church is as impressive as any in Europe. Garfield Park Conservatory is less... More

My friends and I attended a morning mass here and was blessed to get a tour of the basilica given by the rector after the mass. We were treated with historic information about the church with the "private tour" of the basilica. The priest was very warm and accommodating!

We attended a Christmas Concert, but received a trip back to Europe. The Church is a special place for all to sit and reflect about the mixture of art and faith. Pay close attention to the side chapels.
