Laughed the whole time

Saw Boyband the musical and it was HILARIOUS. The dancing, the hair, the pickle - it was all brilliant. First time at the annoyance theater and would highly recommend seeing Boyband while it’s there!!

Go early for the pre-show
Sep 2019
This theatre is easy to get to - just a few steps from the subway. I went to a late show on the main stage and arrive early to find a great drag show beforehand. Everyone was incredibly friendly and the drink prices were a better value than some other places I've been in Chicago.

Sorry, not a fan
Jan 2018 • Couples
The Annoyance Theater is a basic local comedy club with talent that are honing their skills. Sadly, the night we attended the Fire and Beer performance was lacking in humor and simply "not good". There were a few sketches that had some break-out moments, but overall the audience was underwhelmed. Those who engaged with laughter were obviously friends of the cast.

Every comedy troupe has good and bad nights - so I won't say this is a theater to avoid. But, on this night- I wish I had.

Sorry you didn't enjoy the show you saw, but hope you had a good experience at our theatre and bar. Agreed - not all shows are going to hit, but we do run 32 different shows a week, so there's usually something for everyone to enjoy. If you'd like to come back and give it another try, please contact me. jennifer@theannoyance.com

Hitch Cocktails
Dec 2017 • Couples
Hitch Cocktails is an ad libbed play based loosely on one or more Hitchcock movies. This particular play was set in a corn field (audience suggestion). Liberally sprinkled with Psycho, The Lady Vanishes, The Birds and others. When a cast member actually says a Hitchcock line they drink a cocktails. This is highly entertaining. The cast is very talented.

Avoid the bar ... enjoy the show
Sep 2017 • Solo
Annoyance Theater is a nice venue with some interesting shows ... all let down by an arrogant and self-important bar/lobby area. Perhaps the staff have taken the 'Annoyance' name as a theme for treating customers?

The staff seem to expect customers to know how they operate. For example, you order some food, get your drinks and sit down. Much later, you wonder where your food is ... go over to the counter and discover that it's been sitting there, getting cold, since you're expected to come back to collect it. No effort is made to let you know when the food is ready. Except, of course, if you're a friend of the bartender, he'll then bring it to your table (I saw this happening).
It's a noisy bar. Loud music is played despite the number of people in the bar. When it's crowded before a show, people have to shout just to be heard. Staff react by turning the music volume UP so customers have to shout even more. Coming out of a show the audience walks into a wall of sound. It seems the management have mistaken volume for ambiance.
All this diminishes the overall audience experience. Surly treatment at the Annoyance Bar doesn't put you in a good frame of mind for any show or comedy.
There's plenty of bars and restaurants in the area, use one of them and come just for the show.

Hi Peter, I'm so sorry to see this review - especially because our bar is usually something we get great compliments for. Your points will be shared with our staff, and I'll make sure we do a better job of communicating to our customers how our kitchen works. Thank you for coming - I hope on your next visit we do a better job. Please feel free to ask for me -or any manager on duty - Jennifer Estlin

One of the two best Improv Venus in Chicago.
May 2017 • Solo
When in Chicago, go see improv at the Annoyance theatre or at IO Chicago. The Annoyance theatre tends to break the rules with their improv. I came on a Saturday night and saw House and Brew. They are one of their house improv teams. It was good not as good as I had expected though having seen many of their other shows. I also stuck around for their Burlesque show at 10:30. It was a very good sketch show and yes they end up going topless. The character work was great.

Even the main stage is intimate

Recently viewed a production of Steamworks. Theatre is set up in a comedy style format. No bad seats in the house but a small menu even in the large theatre. A nice new find - my first visit.

A weekend of Comedic and Musical relief
May 2017 • Friends
Saw two shows at this great intamate theatre in one night. I had enjoyed the first show so much, I took the actors advice and went to the next show!
The talent and of the actors at Annoyance is phenomenal! Non stop laughs, and true musical talent. Improv shows run all night through the weekend. Check out The Annoyance Theatre for an amazing way to kick off positive vibes for the weekend. Sweet staff, and actors. I'm so thankful for the experience. Can't wait to go back again. The shows I saw were, Steamworks: The Musical, and Hitch*Cocktails, and I'd gladly see the hilarious shows again.

Fun Saturday Night

Really good performance in small theater - improv by Fire and Beer. Laughed the whole time. Prices are great for tickets and beer prices reasonable too. Great way to spend an evening.
