The course is very challenging and very beautiful when playing. Having grown up in Elgin, it was a pleasant surprise to find this course. It is just a great playing experience. It is made for the average player which we all are at heart. You leave this course with a good feeling.

The Highlands is a perfect course whether you are a serious golfer or not. It can be challenging but also forgiving. The grounds and course are very well kept and maintained. It can be very scenic for a Midwest course. You will have no regrets playing The Highlands.

I played here for the first time today. The course was in very nice shape and the fairways are greens were firm even after a few rain storms the prior couple of days. This is a links course built in an old rock quarry. Nice layout and looks easier than it plays. The green complexes are undulating but fair. Really... More

Played this course for the first time today. Played from the gold tee box. From this box, the course was not too difficult. Lots of room on the fairways for drives. Most of the trouble is around the greens. If your short game is on, you will do well. The wind was only around 10 mph today. This likely made... More

Let me preface this by saying the course is beautiful and a wonderful venue. My friends and I are hard core golfers who not only enjoy playing in nice sunny conditions, but are not adverse to playing in challenging conditions up to and including what we consider gladiator golf. I booked a tee time through Golfnow and was excited about... More

Highlands is a challenging course, but a lot of fun. Trees don't really come into play, but there's plenty of rough, a fair amount of water, and some tricky doglegs. And I liked that they included a bucket of range balls in with the fee today, but they are a bit pricey for a Sunday round of golf.

The new quarry nine has dramatically changed the course. Lots of interesting holes and much more difficult. Prices are reasonable. New bar/restaurant this year is a big improvement.

Probably one of the finest public courses you'll ever play. Challenging for all skill levels. And now they have a decent restaurant (the Grumpy Goat).

I have played this course many times...before the newest nine holes opened up. It was a pretty nice course back then, and since the new side opened up, it is just a super golf course. Just read recently where it is rated #2 in Illinois as well as being included in the 2013 Golfweek's Best Courses you can Play. Many... More
