The bluff was beautiful. There's a map at the trailhead to help you better understand the historical significance of the 'mounds' throughout the land. The views of the mississippi river was great as well. The looped trails were low intensity and wide grassy paths made up the majority of the loops.

This location overlooks the river, the bluffs and the countryside. You can reach it by car with a small walk at the end.

What a wonderful way to spend an hour or two with the family! There are two short hikes you can do here with gorgeous views of the Mississippi. We randomly stopped by here on the way to Chestnut Mountain. There were a few other folks here. The display has a printout describing how this was sacred ground for many Native... More

Stopped by and was not sure what to expect. But the information guide and signs were very informative. Be sure to gauge the map where you park and notice the path immediately to your left for the thunderbird mound.

We were looking for the other end of the Galena trail off of Pilot Knob Road, but we never found it. So we rolled in here to see if we could find access to it. We didn't. But instead we found enjoyable trails, a great place to picnic and lots of mounds. We spent a couple of hours here in... More

We were in the area exploring places off the beaten path, and this was a very nice stop to enjoy some history of the area. Amazing to think that Indians were there so many years ago, as evidenced by the many mounds there. There are hiking trails that are kept groomed, and you won't be disappointed in the beauty you... We walked one of the trails, the one which looped around the bird mound. A few hills, beautiful wildflowers, scenic views and a massive amount of mosquitos...but we had bug spray with us! Saturday late morning and we did not even see any other people till we were leaving. There is a portable potty at the beginning and a stand... More

Multiple benefits of visiting Casper: grasp the significance of what this area once was, a place that Native Americans thrived and created burial mounds. You do need to make a tiny effort to get there, but it is easy to find about 10 minutes south of Galena. Enjoy arboreal beauty? If you can slow down and walk the area, it... More

This is a very well maintained park. There were guide books available with a map and information about the area. There are several mounds including a Thunderbird shaped one. A peaceful place to hike.

My husband and I drove out here on a Monday afternoon while on a visit to Galena. The view of the Mississippi is mostly obscured by trees, at least at the first lookout. He wasn't feeling well enough for a long hike, so we just did a short loop. It's very peaceful and beautiful. The signs and guidebook are well... More
