This is a place for all to visit. Mr. Eversgerd has built this fort with his own two hands (and some others to help the process along) and has moved in cabins and buildings that preserve the history of our ancestors. Inside the main building he has a museum featuring Native American artifacts including, but not limited to, axes, arrowheads,... More

Until I heard about Bob Eversgerd's Civil War fort, the only thing I knew about Germantown, Illinois, was it is the birthplace of St. Louis Cardinal Hall of Fame baseball player/manager Red Schoendienst. But Eversgerd's fort is something else. Truthfully, it is a misnomer. There were no forts of this kind in the Civil War. And, of course, the Civil... More

Best kept secret in Southern IL! Lived in this area for almost 20 years and never knew this awesome 1800's fort existed off a country road near Germantown, IL, If you are a history buff or would just like to see an authentic fort/village from long ago-stop off here on your way home from St. Louis like we did. We... More

Under construction since 1984 and it's not done yet. If you're a professional or amateur mason, plan on coming out and helping Bob get the perimeter walls done. Unskilled workers would certainly not have any problem filling days of labor needed to move this fantastic vision to the finish line. There has been so much effort put into this project,... More

This place is amazing and to think it was all done by one man. It's like spending 2 hrs in the 1800's. He has one of the best collections of arrowheads and other artifacts that I have ever seen. This place is a must see for history buffs.

I have been to Bob's fort several times. As my grandkids get older I take them there for a quality learning experience. .Bob has made it very interesting and enjoyable for all of us. His collection of artifacts is museum quality, and his knowledge is incredible. He has always taken time to explain "How it was done in the old days".... More

"Bob's Fort" is perhaps the most interesting destination in the St. Louis Metro East. "Bob's Fort" is the lifework of Bob Eversgerd. In 1984, Bob decided he wanted to build a fort. Not just any fort, but his vision of an 18th century stone fortress such as the French might have built - if they had time. Bob claims that... More
