About
To ensure the health and safety of our guests, tours at the Home and Studio return on June 11 and are limited to nine guests per time slot. (Updated 6/2/20) The Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio in Oak Park, Illinois served as Wright's private residence and workplace from 1889 to 1909--the first 20 years of his career. Today, Oak Park is home to the world’s largest collection of Wright-designed buildings. Wright used his first home to experiment with design concepts that contain the seeds of his architectural philosophy. In his adjacent studio, Wright and his associates developed a new American architecture - the Prairie style. Enjoy guided tours of the museum complex and neighboring historic district seven days a week. Trained interpreters offer insights into Wright's family life and architectural legacy. Tour details are available on the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust website

This is the real deal on a Frank Lloyd Wright Experience. It is nestled practically in the heart of downtown Oak Park IL. The guides are amazing. The home and studio take you right back to his roots and rather further complicated subsequent future. You going to have to climb a few stairs, but, not too many. It is cool. Don't go too crazy in the gift store, as I always do.

Small group tours, make reservations early. Knowledgeable docents, interesting stories, restoring the works of an eccentric genius.

Finally went on this tour--It was great.

I grew up in Oak Park but moved away after HS. All the time living there I never went on this tour. I finally did and loved every minute of it. FLW was a genius and this place is super cool. It's well worth a visit.

Insight to Famed Architect
Jun 2019 • Couples
While visiting family in the Chicago area, we took an afternoon to visit the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio. The guided tour is very thorough, giving insight to the life and personality of Frank Lloyd. You can see how nature played into his style from the beginning and the subsequent moving into geometric patterns. All a part of the man who hated clutter. By the end of the tour, you are sure to want to walk and drive by the many other homes and buildings in Oak Park designed by Wright. There is a well-stocked gift shop which offers Wright Style merchandise and many books on his life and his architecture. Well worth more than half a day.

You don't need to be an avid fan of Frank Lloyd Wright to enjoy this tour. My knowledge of him was probably rudimentary, and weighted heavily toward knowledge of his prairie style architecture. His home and studio in Oak Park give you a look into his family and early career. Tours are limited to 12 people, so there is ample opportunity to ask questions and learn from the tour guide. It was fascinating to see how his style evolved, just during the time he lived in this home, and added on to it. The volunteer who led our tour made the stories of how he interacted with his clients come alive. You could just imagine Frank Lloyd Wright treating his clients in this way. After the tour we enjoyed a lovely walk around the neighborhood, finding the three other houses he designed. It was also an easy walk to downtown Oak Park for lunch. There is a small gift shop with a wide variety of Wright-related items.

A House of History
Dec 2019
Traveling through the house, each room showed FLW’s developing style in Prairie Architecture. This tour was so fascinating, I had seen Falling Water several years ago and to see how he developed to that home was amazing. Don’t miss the homes he designed through Oak Park and also LaGrange, Illinois.

Very interesting visit

We were shown around the house and studio by another fantastically knowledgeable and passionate volunteer. The house is perfect for the hour long tour. With original fixtures and furniture it is a great place to see the origins of Wright’s practice along with his original office and draughting room for his expanded practice in Chicago We took a taxi there which was a long ride but in fact the train is less than ten minutes walk from the house and studio. If you have only heard the name and are interested or know a lot about the subject you will love the tour and house as well as seeing many other examples in the neighbourhood

Learn about an American icon
Dec 2019
When visiting family in Chicago, we decided to take a side trip to nearby Oak Park, Illinois, just a short train ride out of the city on the Green line. We bought the economical combo ticket for the Frank Lloyd Wright Home & Studio Tour and the self-guided Walking Tour of neighborhood homes. A very informative docent provided a detailed look into the personal and business life of Frank Lloyd Wright who designed the home for his family and then added an architecture studio to the property. We learned how Frank Lloyd Wright created a new design concept for residential architecture and how he put his touch on everything from window design, to light fixtures, to even the furniture. Following the Home & Studio Tour, we strolled down the street to see 6 more examples of his work on the same street while listening to a hand-held audio device. I highly recommend this informative glimpse into the life of an American icon.

Very Interesting
Dec 2019
The tour of the home and studio was very interesting. Our guide was very good. The house was full of history and we learned so much about Frank Lloyd Wright. Definitely a worthwhile visit. Book in advance, as the tour group size are rather small, but this made it more enjoyable. Plenty of on street parking.

Interesting use of space and light
Dec 2019
We had a very good tour guide. The building is interesting....little special touches for the children, for example. The woodwork is beautiful...why do people nowadays want to paint over so much wood? The additions over the years really changed some of the views from the home. His studio was an interesting part of the tour. Stories of his family and life enriched it for me But what I also enjoyed was the three houses designed by him,, just up the street . We walked around the neighborhood awhile and enjoyed the wide variety of house styles and big trees.
