We didn't get to see the Blackhawk statue which was apparently getting a cleaning/facelift and was tarred but it was still a very pretty hike. Those steps to the river edge though - wow - those are a killer. Bring water and use the benches...More

We drove 45 minutes out of our way to Lowden State Park to see the giant (50 feet tall) Blackhawk statue. But it was covered in tarp and looked like a giant condom. It's also nearby a nuclear plant which made us a bit nervous....More

Easy day trip and hiking location with easy trails. The American Indian Statue by Lorado Taft is currently undergoing some fairly serious and long overdue repairs. The statue is covered head to concrete toe with rope bound plastic, so don't expect to see this.

When I saw the statue from the other side of the river (in Oregon), I thought they might have painted the statue. But it has a new dark plastic wrap while it awaits funding from the deadlocked government of Illinois.

Just do it. Your legs will hate you afterwards but you won't regret it! There are benches up and down the entire way so you can rest whenever you need to.

Aside from the statue overlooking the Rock River, this is just a run-of-the-mill Illinois State Park--which is to say that you can't even sit around in your own campsite with a can of beer or a glass of wine. In my opinion, Illinois State Parks...More

I am pretty sure still under a tarp, I would try calling Lowden State Park at 1-815-752-6828 to find out how much longer the repairs will be.

Yes. It now has a dark black plastic cover held down by many ropes.
