Unfortunately, we were not permitted to enter the Island. As Canadian citizens, we were not allowed onto the island since it is a active military facility. It's a shame because we are very interested in the history. :(

This exhibit is along the main road in Rock Island Arsenal and is easy to find and visit. It is much more than the Atomic cannon - there are artillery and armor pieces exhibited as well. Some captured pieces are displayed as well. The captioned...More

I had heard of this cannon and if you are on the island, you may as well look for it. I had read previously that these cannons had never been used beyond the testing stage.

This historic cannon dates all the way back to I think the Spanish American War. Rock Island Arsenal has many historic monuments that adds richness to the area.

This park is outdoors so inclement weather will subtract from your experience. There is around a dozen historical pieces of military equipment with placards describing their usage.
