About
This Victorian Viewing Station is the perfect place on the beautiful west shore, to take in a panoramic view of Windermere. Wander up the Viewing Station as the first tourists to the Lakes did hundreds of year before you. Don't miss the cosy cafe in the courtyard and the striking vistas from the top of the station.

Great views of Lake Windermere from this picturesque old building on top of a hill. The stained glass windows are very photogenic. I loved taking photos here and we spent about 15 minutes snapping away and looking across the lake.

There are information boards along the walk to the viewing station.

A short walk 5 minute uphill via steep steps from Ash Landing carpark near ferry (LA22 0LP), or Harrowslack carpark (LA22 0LR) is a little further away. Free parking for National Trust vehicles.

We only spent about 25 minutes here but it is well worth a little detour or adding into your itinerary. Our visit didn't cost us anything! and we got some fantastic photos.

Designed specifically to view or paint or just be inspired from this is a viewing point, the ruins of a residence that had different rooms glazed in different coloured glass. This would cause each room to show the landscape as though in different/changing seasons. Nowadays its a pretty lookout point with still some lovely views.

Having recently watched an enjoyable film with Ted Danson about the Loch Ness monster I wanted to see the loch for myself.

Unfortunately, it took long enough to get to the Lake District so we had to settle for this instead of pushing onto Scotland. That was where my disappointment ended. This was a spectacular place to look at the water and be inspired whether in winter or summer.

Thank you for your review. We're glad you enjoyed your visit - hopefully you didn't spot any monsters in the lake!

This is part of the National Trust so the car park at the bottom charges. A nice uphill stroll to the old ruins.
The picturesque windows, one on each side are beautiful in good condition. As you look through the windows you capture the beautiful scenic view.
Only a short visit but definitely worth it.

Viewing station is a very short walk from car park, there are some steps that are very slippy when wet. We had a quick look then walked along the lake which is very nice. There are public toilets at the ferry stop. I would not make a special journey for the viewing station itself but it’s ok if you are incorporating it with something else like a walk or trip to the cafe.

We visited here on the way from Fell Foot and parked at the bottom. Steep to walk up too but not a long walk. Really interesting building with lovely views over Windermere. The building has coloured glass around two view points. Well worth a visit and further walks if you want more walks.

This viewing station is just before you get to the car ferry point. The carpark is run by National Trust and you can scan your card and get a ticket. Its a hike up the hill to the viewing point, if the suns out and its a clear day the view over the lake is good. Not much to do there other than take a few snaps though.

This rather unique lookout point gives some fabulous views of Lake Windemere. A show walk from the ferry terminal or you can incorporate the viewing point with a scenic lakeside walk from Wray Castle. Well worth a visit if in the vicinity.

Lovely short walk through the woods to climb steps ( you do need flat shoes as the steps are different heights and are rocky) to reach the top, with steps then to reach the upper platform. Fantastic views across the lake make it well worth the climb. The pay and display car park is small but not too busy the day we were there. If you leave the car park and cross the road then just along to your right is a gate into a small nature reserve, which was lovely to wander through and am sure children would love reading the signs and trying to spot the wild life!

Short walk from a little car park which is cash only pay and displsy. Didn't have any trouble getting parked. Some steps to get up but not an excessive amount so pretty accessible to those less steady on their feet like myself. It doesn't take long to walk round it but the views of the lake from the top were just spectacular.
