Only for Ethiopians
Nov 2019
The outside is intriguing, and its story, about holding the Ark of the Covenant, too. Unfortunately for westerners, entry is forbidden, and they sometimes get upset if you so much as approach the (closed) gate to the compound surrounding the church.

This is the home of the real ark of the covenant. This is a must see in Ethiopia. The art work on the walls in the nearby church are excellent.

Beleive like an Ethiopian and it is an amazing feeling

Menelik I was the son of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba and is believed by Ethiopians to have brought the Ark of the Covenant containing the Ten Commandmants from Jerusalem to Axum. Ethiopians believe it is still there. You are not allowed to go inside, but it is adjacent to many of the main attractions in Axum so it is easy to get a glimpse from the outside. If you can believe like an Ethiopian for a few moments, it is an amazing feeling to be so close to a historical and cultural treasure.

Not really available to westerners. You may not even walk up to the protected fence. Women are not even allowed that close.

Beautiful chapel and one of the most holiest places in the word but you can watch this only outside and from the distance. Home of the Ark of the Covenant. No chance to get in :)

Ark of Convenant
Nov 2019 • Friends
Despite their continued claims to have the Ark stored away in the catacombs of the Chapel of the Tablet, no one seems to have seen it. The only person who is allowed to see the artifact is the Guardian of the Covenant, the appointed guard of the Ark. This guard must be a virgin and they are chosen by the previous guard prior to their death. Once a guard is chosen, they supposedly cannot leave the chapel, lest the Ark go unguarded. Not even the leader of the Ethiopian church can see the Ark.

Fascinating to think what might be inside of course, but not really that much to see from the outside. Women not allowed in the same precinct

Underwhelming, surrounded by rubble and rubbish
Oct 2019 • Couples
Your here, you have to see it but there is actually nothing to see and any rational human being could not believe the Ark is actually there if it exists at all. The small attached museum has some interesting artifacts but like so many of the museums in Ethiopia it is inadequate and jammed with a jumble of ‘stuff’

Ark of the Covenant?
Oct 2019 • Couples
This is supposedly where the Ark of the Covenant is housed. Of course, there is no historical proof, but the Ethiopian people fervently believe this. No one gets to see it and the area around it is off limits to women.

We heard some stories that they keep the tablet of Moses here, a mysterious place full with question marks, but i think just visit there if you are there
