You'll never know because no one except one monk is allowed inside. A fascinating traditional story tells how it allegedly was brought to Axum.

It is fascinating for what cannot be seen - the Arc of the Covenant. This is, according to the Ethiopian Church the resting place, having been bought here by Queen Sheba. For those who believe, this is a very sacred site.

Nice building but no one is allowed inside. Tablet is said to be hidden away. We did see the "Guardian" which is apparently quite rare. Interesting history.

I was so inspired, this will always be a part of my life. Moreover, Empress Menen, my role model, built this with her own funds. Therefore, I am inspired to help the church in any way I can. To God be the glory.

We were unable to visit it. Even if we were allowed to visit we would not be able to see the arc of the covenant because it is only reputed to be there

The chapel is not open to anyone except the monk that guides it. Very disappointing after coming a long way chasing after the tall tale of the Art of Covenant but only be able to worship at the gate!

Ok so the Arc is supposed to be inside but I wouldn't really call it a great attraction. You see it as you go into the monastery (sorry girls !) but you wouldn't travel around the world to see it. Axum is an amazing place...More
