Nice Place to go Fishing

The park and lake are really nice. This is a great spot if you’re into fishing. We didn’t catch anything, but it was a hot sunny day. The lake is nice and scenic. However, there is no swimming in the lake. The campgrounds were decent and heavily wooded. The sites are much closer together than other state or county parks.... More

Shabbona Lake State Park is a great outlet for laid-back adventures. Trail hikes around lake are relaxing, with lots of goose music to accompany almost every step. Benches here and there provide relief for tired feet. For first-rate offsite eats, try the breakfast specials at exceptional, yet refreshingly low-key Shabbona Cafe in middle of town (waitstaff are welcoming and efficient);... More

We enjoy going to Shabbona Campground every year Columbus Day weekend. There's not any swimming, so we enjoy coming here in the cooler months. The shower houses aren't great. One of the showers wasn't putting out any hot water, which was a little annoying. Staff is usually friendly.

My family and I went here for the weekend to camp. We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. We were able to reserve the campsite weeks in advanced. They asked us what we preferred and we preferred to be near the bathrooms. So we did end up getting a campsite that was sort of near a bathroom. We were... More

Hiking is great at this State Park---woodlands and lake side. Boaters and fishing enthusiasts with be happy to spend the day here participating in their favorite pursuits. Camping is available as well as a popular restaurant and small store on site. There are hotels in the area, too.

The only thing I don't like about this lake is that there is no swimming allowed. Other than that it's a nice place to relax & fish.

A cold overcast day but great fishing. About 55 crappies caught. 28 made it to the fillet table. The boat ramp accomodates two boats at a time. Boat rentals also available with bait shop on site. A very manageable lake. Many fish cribs all over the lake.

I was first to the park for a wedding. It was a gorgeous summer day with wildflowers in full bloom and the lake visible beyond the pastor and couple. It is a local spot for fishing from shore or boat. Nice trails, none too challenging, mostly an outdoor stroll.

Scenic park that seems hours away from the hustle and bustle of the city. About an hour west of Chicago is this gem. A day here will rejuvinate the soul or a romantic nature visit. The trails are well marked and you can choose the length. Many beautiful places for a romantic picnik or a family outing.

Several State Parks have good camp hosts, but Sandra and Russ are the most personable, caring and detail oriented hosts we have seen. This truly enhances a very nice campgroud less than an hour and a half west of Chicago. The setting is beautiful with a well stocked lake and boat rentals available. The trails are well marked and for... More
