The Hofskirkja Church is in the town of Hof in Iceland. The ‘town’ is very small and has this amazing lawn covered church. The grass literally engulfs the walls and roof of the church. The mountainous background makes it such a picturesque and unique little...More

Hofskirkja Church, in the small village of Hof, is well worth the visit. It is one of only six turf churches left in Iceland. This church was built from 1883 - 1885. There is a very interesting cemetery directly behind the church - the graves...More

The church is quaint and beautiful. It wasn't open, but we could walk around the grounds, peek in the windows, and stroll around the adjacent graveyard. The graveyard is so interesting as each plot is a grassy mound above the ground.

This was a cute little stop on the road back to the airport, it's lovely but not a lot to see nor can you get very close to the church.

Good for a stop to take a short walk and stretch the legs. Old cemetery. Smelting rock. WC near church was open to public. Right off the main road.

The church was really cool. It had a grass roof. A great short stop for a photo. They also had a smelting pot. This was the last grass roof church to be built in Iceland.

It’s just of the ring road and clearly sign posted. Takes about 30 minutes to get to from the lagoon. If you want gps coordinates you could google it, it’s listed on their maps site.
