This prairie is a great spot to do some walking while looking for bison. Sometimes you don't see them, but when we were there we saw about 20 of them. It's really neat to see the bison in what was once their natural habitat.

Went to see the buffalo sometimes you can get up really close. Museum is small but pretty informative. Great place for hiking.

We walked an easy ~3 miles and saw 39 bison up close. Awesome experience and a very helpful staff. It was great talking to all of them. The welcome center was open on a Saturday. I think Google said it wasn't, but I'm glad we stopped by.

We came here on a Sunday afternoon, hoping to see the bison. We grabbed a map/brochure from the welcome building and drove to the area down the road where the bison trail was located. The area is beautiful with all of the tall wildflowers and grasses. The trails are wide, flat gravel paths and they were very well marked with... More

Midewin Tallgrass Prairie is a gret place to visit just about year round. The park rangers building has a great display of photos, info on the natural inhabitants, animal. bird and plants alike. There are trails for biking or walking that feature the beauty of the old plains as well as guided tours (during set times and days). Wonderful place... More

Although this was a school field trip, it was very interesting. The headquarters has displays of historical interest about life on the prairie. There's also a fossil display. The workers were very informative and helpful. They also have books related to Midewin for sale.

Took our kids (9 and 11) and our bikes. Stopped at the headquarters first to get a map. Talked to the ranger about best route to see bison. She told us about the bunker you can go inside and climb over. We drove to the Iron Bridge trailhead. Biked to the bunker-then to the Bison which were in the SW... More

If you're a nature loving, solitude seeking, hiking maniac then reward yourself with a visit to this beautiful prairie. This place is huge! I recommend starting at the Welcome Center and speaking to Ranger Mary. She is awesome! Her directions, suggestions and overall knowledge is incredible. There are 12 miles of trails for hiking alone. And then, there are the... More

We were driving on route 53, when suddenly my significant other began yelling to stop. Naturally, when she said that she saw buffalo, I was a bit skeptical. But sure enough, there were a few that were actually viewable from the highway. They are working very hard to restore this area to its original state and certainly the buffalo and... More

Saw the Bison at a distance. Explored the Bunkers and hiked around the Park, came across some very interesting trees. An ID of these trees would be great.
