I'm not a huge zoo fan, but my wife is. We went to Mesker Park, and first I will say.....because of COVID and it being December....I am quite sure I didn't see this zoo at it's best. There was nothing at all wrong with it.....it was very nice and the people were extremely nice. But there were some exhibits closed, most likely because of it being winter. And many of the animals were not out....again probably because it is winter. But the layout of this zoo is very easy to navigate, and some of the views are amazing. There was a petting area that I'm sure is wonderful.....but was closed, most likely due to COVID. But back to the good stuff. There is a jaguar who seems to be the star of the show......he comes right up to the glass and then rolls around on his back to scratch. Then he stands up, gives a half roar and walks away like he's done with us. The zoo is well maintained and clean. The walkways are very wide and surrounded by wonderful greenery. They have a family garden section that is probably beautiful in the warmer months. The gift shop is very nice and has a lot of quality merchandise. We were very impressed by this zoo....even I was impressed and I don't really like zoos. It just seems that these folks do it right. And one more thing.......the signage in this zoo was extremely well done. There was no wondering which way to go......every turn is well marked with signs directing you through the zoo so you don't miss anything. Well done!

For the price you can't go wrong. Areas was meet and clean. Most animals seemed well cared for and challenged, saying that two animals we say paced their enclosures the Bengal tiger, and the giant anteater. I wish there was more places open to purchase water, not even the gift shop had water to sell. The rainforest was very nice with the plants in good shape and creating a pleasant journey to see who would live there. There was a large construction project going on. A exhibit of warm loving penguins was being built. Opening in 2021.

Mesker Park Zoo is alright. The gift shop and lots of exhibits were closed the Saturday we visited. It’s vintage to say the least. I believe it’s Indiana’s oldest zoo. The prices are very fair so it’s worth at least one visit if you’re into zoos.

Besure to get a family membership, great for kids or solo if you enjoy zoo's. Bring a camera and be sure to take some photos.
