Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lisa was an excellent hostess - we felt like we had a new friend. The museum is small but worth every minute, especially if you knew nothing about the area when you arrived. An unbelievable circus collection. I also recommend reading, So Cold the River, a fictionalized version of French Lick/West Baden history.

Nice way to learn about the area. The hostess at the front desk was friendly and engaging - she was open to questions and more info.

I absolutely loved this place. It was a fun tour. Plus, if you’re a miniature enthusiast, there is a display of the town and circus that is amazingly detailed. The local history is interesting also. Our tour guide was awesome! Highly recommend.

The French Lick West Baden Museum in French Lick, Indiana is a small museum that showcases the histories of the towns of French Lick and West Baden Springs and the two world-class hotels that have drawn thousands of tourists to the Orange County region of south-central Indiana. Located at 469 South Maple Street, in the beautifully restored Dickason Building, the museum is open from 10 to 6 Tuesday through Saturday. See exhibits that trace local history from 1900 to 1930, including a room-sized scale model of the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus, the French Lick Scenic Railway and a recreation of the original arched entrance to the West Baden hotel grounds. Learn about the famous artists, politicians, horsemen and sports figures who once called the area home. From mineral springs to Pluto Water to gambling to Joe Louis to Irving Berlin to Al Capone to Larry Bird, the museum tells the story of the rich and famous who visited the valley. See photographs, relics, artifacts and artwork. There are many reasons why my wife and I, you and many others have opted to visit French Lick. It is a vacation destination unlike any other.

Part of the whole West Baden experience. See it while going shopping to shop. The shops and museum circle the huge atrium. Eat, drink, and shop. What a great time.

This was a last minute idea while we were deciding where to eat before leaving for home. I don't know why we didn't consider it earlier as we all love museums and really enjoyed our visit here. From commemorating the early days of French Lick with it's gambling history, it's black history and local celebrity Larry Bird there was much to look at. All three of us loved the circus exhibit. The diorama's were marvelous. We spent about 60 minutes touring the museum only because we were running short on time. But I think 90 minutes to 2 hours is a good idea for those who really like to read all of the exhibits. Not sure if we'll do it again if back in town, but we really enjoyed our visit there.

This is one of those hidden gem small town fun museums. Not hands on for kids, but it held the interest of our 3 grand-daughters, 11 to 7 years old. It's ADA compliant., and you are free to take your time to check out everything. The first part offers fantastic displays of items from the rich history of the area, even including the story of the first ever tomato juice sold in the USA. So much to read about, including the history of the two stunning hotels in town and the people who made them possible, and stuff about French Lick native Larry Bird of 1980's NBA fame, too. Our grand-daughters also really enjoyed the museum's highlight, a huge scale model display of the 1934 Hagenbeck Wallce Circus set up as it would have been for a show in a small town, complete with the process of unloading the show's train, parading the circus through the town, and best of all, the superbly detailed, colorful big top, side shows, and areas set up for the cast and crew, including a dining hall tent with place settings! Amazing detail with thousands of beautifully carved and painted scale human beings. This is not the nation's largest circus model, but it is absolutely huge and well worth the $8 adult admission charge. Air con on a 90 degree day is appreciated, too. We had fun! So will you! Don't miss this place! Friendly staff. Restrooms. Plenty of free parking. Next to an ice cream shop.
