Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Absolutely stunning. If visiting Notre Dame for any reason it’s worth a quick stop. They ask for a $3 donation to replace candles if you use one.

Wonderful place to pray. On the Notre Dame campus, there is parking nearby. Go in the main entrance and inform the attendant that you are going to the Grotto. They will give you a 2 hour parking pass for the Grotto.

Beautiful space. Go when schools out so you have better parking options and less people. Open year round and is handicap accessible.

Super cool grotto....if you're touring the campus - this is a must see. Just be respectful...people are typically praying here.

Love the grotto. It's a peaceful place to reflect and pray. Proximity to parking is great and the atmosphere is unmatched. Watching so many students visit is also wonderful.

Serene, peaceful, prayerful. It’s a nice place to stop, contemplate and pray. You can light a candle if you want. Well worth a stop.

This was a peaceful and quiet spot. We came early and enjoyed a moment to pray and reflect. From here we headed to the Basilica.

Second only to the Basilica, this is a must-do for any visitor to Notre Dame. I wish I'd been able to go when it was cooler, around dusk, but otherwise this is a very special place.

What a great place for a quiet moment to reflect. Even though it is a spot for “tourists”, everyone is respectful and quiet.

If you are coming during the week I'd suggest going to mass at the Basilica. 11:30 if you are around midday, and 5:15 (the better options. Pull into the security check by the bookstore and let them know you plan to attend mass and visit the Grotto. They will issue you a temporary parking pass for the parking lot near the Grotto or on St. Mary's road, both are close, but the lot may have a few spaces after staff leave at 5. The Grotto is directly behind the basilica and easy to reach if you park there. Toting kids from the bookstore lot or the stadium lot will be much more difficult, and mass at the Basilica can be inspiring as well. Mass followed by a special trip to the Grotto to light a candle is a match made in heaven.

Two of us are both planning to visit next year March 2020. Is March not a busy month? what's the earliest month of the year has less visitors and/or tourists? Thank you and God Bless

We happened to be there in May and there was a class reunion plus kids moving our of the dorms and an ROTC induction ceremony going on. Very busy BUT the parking attendant let us go in anyway. I would go online and see when spring break for Notre Dame is. Bet it is much quieter then! Enjoy. And be sure to see the Basilica as well. Beautiful!
We are planning a visit in 2 weeks, during the week...if we want to explore the grotto and campus is there anything I should know about parking etc. in order to navigate? I will have children with me.

There is a parking lot by the stadium from which you can walk to the grotto. It’s a beautiful walk across campus.
