Possibly you have seen this structure on TV at some point in life.
The facade looks fantastic as it sits on a mountain top, the view from the top of the monastery is breathtaking as you look over the Spiti Valley and the mountains around.
You are greeted well by the monks as they show you around the monastery, and the different rooms. You are welcomed by a warm tea and some snacks.
We were lucky to walk in during a prayer session and it was absolutely divine.
A must visit!

A very big monastery in kaza. You need to walk a bot from parking place to reach inside. They have abig prayer hall and meditation caves as well. From terrace you will see a very beautiful full valley view.

This place is iconic, serene, beautifully calm and relaxing, there are meditation Chambers created really a long while ago, there a school near it, there are a lot of monks, functions, just a lot of things that would make you feel relaxed, calm and composed. You should definitely meditate here for a while, there are monks guide and tell about the history of the place that really fascinating (they speak multiple languages) do have the herbal tea that they offer, do make a donation as a good will. Photography at certain points is prohibited so please respect that. Do talk to the monks they'll tell you all about the amazing history of Key monastery.
Also, there is a spot where you can hike to and get an amazing view of the monastery with the whole valley, it's a 15-20 mins hike, I'll share the photos as well.

Key monastery stands like a majestic fortress on the banks of Spiti river. Standing alone in a flat bowl, the monastery is surrounded by barren mountains, adding to its distinct charm. Besides raw nature and architectural beauty there is much more to Key Monastery and you understand that only when you visit it!

Go, stay with lamas and experience their life at least for a day! Key monastery offers a wonderful opportunity to stay and experience the life of lamas. Its an experience you'll cherish throughout your life!

When I stayed in my hotel I had a complete view to this gompa, which is the biggest one in the valley. It has a stunning view to the mointains and I could be the lucky one to join a monks ceremony.

The view from the top is to die for! And please remember the monks to ask for a second cup of tea.

We were taken around the monastery by one of the monks. Got a chance to view 700 year old manuscripts, ancient instruments and some awe-inspiring art. Make sure you have enough energy to walk around the monastery as the steps inside will tire you out.

The Monastery has some really beautiful scriptures & paintings of Lord Buddha & other Gods. The Key Gompa is also famous for its priceless collection of ancient Thangkas including Tibetian silk Thangkas upto 800 yrs old & frescos depicting the life of Padmasambhava. There is a Key village that just comes before the Key monastery. The views from vantage point are breathtaking from where you can view Rangrik village across Spiti river

You won’t find Key Monastery that majestic once you enter the complex. Unless one climbs up the hill at the back of monastery to get a view of it it looks like any other old building. But the view from backside hill is truly majestic. Monastery can be seen fixed between mountains with a river flowing by. It has to be one of the best views I have had.
