Nice Botanical Garden

Was technically here for a wedding. It is small, but nice, a good number of plants, but nothing really exotic. Easy to get to, lots of parking.

This is definitely a stop you should make while in Iowa's capital. Whether your interest is bonsai, cactus, or tropical plants there are exhibits ready to attract your attention. We have visited dozens of times, but the center has never missed having new sights. My favorite this time was a garden of insect-eating plants. Everything is inside, so every season... More

It's fall so the grounds probably were not as gorgeous as they are in spring and summer, but we really enjoyed all the indoor displays and especially the greenhouses. Definitely worth the price of the ticket to get in!

This botanical garden is just lovely. They boast the largest selection of coleus in the area. They certainly have many varieties and as a collector of such I had a difficult time not pinching a few plants!! There is a wonderful walkway over the water way which is 'planted' with canna, water lily and other water loving plants. The restaurant... More

What a sweet surprise. In Des Moines for work and wanted to go for a walk so myself and a friend decided to visit the Botanical Gardens. Was afraid the frost would have ruined much but it was beautiful. Wish we would have gotten their earlier and had lunch on their terrace. It closed at 2:00 pm. But enjoyed the... More

Beautiful inside tropical sphere with cactus as well, leading into an outstanding wet area with waterfalls. Additional gàrden areas extend further on walkways. Bonzai plant displays were interesting as well. Lots of butterflys. Nice cafe terrace overlooking the gàrdens. Relaxing for sure. Wish they sold plants.

The botanical garden has a wonderful display of tropical plants. Very relaxing place to visit. The garden room had lots of flowers in bloom, including many orchids.

This was our first stop on a 9-day bus trip and we all ABSOLUTELY loved it! I cannot tell you how many pictures were taken of the awesome waterfall! The only complaint I have is that the café was not staffed enough to handle to 2 buses that arrived at the same time and some of our people waited over... More

We went in early October and it was breathtaking! Beautiful grounds inside and out. The ladies at the gift shop were very sweet. I suppose it could have had more kid specific aspects, but my 4 young children did enjoy themselves.

The walk from downtown is fairly easy along the river, although there are no trees to shade your walk, so if it's hot drive it. Parking is free at the Gardens. $8 Entrance fee unless you have a membership to their gardens, and they also accept trade-out entrance fee if you are a member of some other gardens (prob need...
