If you are looking for records or history of the University of Iowa, or if you are looking for maps, rare books, women's archive and first editions from Iowa authors, be sure to add Special Collections to your research list. Also good for seeing rare books, just because. Check out their social media and YouTube channels as well.

walking, browsing through the campus brought many new experiences; the museums are wonderful and well thought out.

The University of Iowa has long nurtured writers, and I am happy to report that its special collections staff also makes visiting scholars researching these writers feel welcome. I spent four days in the archives using a playwright's papers, and the curators and student staff members were extremely kind and helpful. Although I was only there to use one woman's... More

I visited this collection by chance at the invitation of a friend. I did not have high expectations of Iowa City's book collections and was delighted to find world class collections of, among other things, Leigh Hunt, a very important member of the circle of Shelley and Byron, Science Fiction, Pulp Fiction and cookery. The staff are charming and helpful.... More

Iowa has a long and full record of women striving to make the world a better place. Those archives are extensive and include the records of women leaders from the beginning of Iowa history to the present. Archivists welcome submissions and prefer to do sorting and cataloguing for donor.

The Iowa women's historical archives collection is absolutely amazing. The archivist gave us a tour and an overview of how the archives got started and how they've built the collections. They have a treasure trove of materials on Latinas in the Iowa. If you're a historian doing research, this is a really nice archive.
