Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a pretty short train ride, but really is nostalgic and a lot of fun while visiting the event. Like all things at the site it is well maintained and very original .The kids always loved jumping on and getting to ride around the entire campus and see all of the areas from a different vantage point.

My wife and I went to Mt. Pleasant for the Old Threshers Reunion, and purchased the 5 day admission pass for very little money, and we weren't disappointed! There is so much to do and see at this classic midwest event, that 5 days is barely enough....the Midwest Central Railroad is at the heart of the event and is a great way to get around and see the show grounds....admission also includes prime live entertainment well into the evening....so much to see and do....from 100s antique tractors to see to riding the rails....everyone should check out this event once in their lives....we are going back every year now!

The Midwest Central Railroad is a must ride at Old thrashers in Mt Pleasant Iowa. You get to experience Cowboys shooting their guns (Fake Bullets) along with the wonderful sound of the steam engine as it blows it s whistle and rings it s bell at the different crossings. Of course the workers are all dressed up in period clothing. It brings me back to my youth where in my home town of Fairfield we used to hear that wonderful sound of the Steam Engines as they came into town both on the Rock Island and Burlington Railroads.

If you enjoy steam trains, this is a venue to not miss... If you're lucky, you might get in on the train robbery too!

We love riding the rails at Midwest Old Threshers each year. The staff do a great job of restoring and operating this narrow gauge steam locomotive. This is especially fun for children.

They do a great job of restoring and operating steam locomotives and antique passenger and freight cars and operating all day long around the site. Great fun and only $3 per ride!

Midwest Old Threshers should be on EVERYONE'S "bucket list"! It is a treasure trove of agricultural history. From horse drawn power to the threshing machines and steam locomotives of yesterday to today's country music scene, this yearly show in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa has something for everyone! Check out all of the displays there! There is food for every palate as well. Some things you shouldn't miss at Midwest Old Thresher's include the STEAM TRAINS, the ANTIQUE STEAM CAROUSEL, the WILD WEST SHOW, and the THEATRE MUSEUM OF REPERTOIRE AMERICANA, which is, in itself, another great piece of unique history that showcases the many tent shows that toured the U.S. at the turn of the 1900's. Over 400 of them, including Neill and Caroline Schaffner's "The Schaffner Players"! (Also known as the "Toby and Suzie" show). Many big time entertainers got their start in these touring tent companies, including Lawrence Welk, Bob Hope, Clarke Gable, Milburn Stone (a.k.a. "Doc" on TV's "Gunsmoke")! The Theatre Museum houses many artifacts and scripts from these shows. All in all, Midwest Old Thresher's is a "magical" experience in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa! The trains are AWESOME, with daily rides each day of the Reunion, and be sure to ride the Midwest Central Electric Railway!

Old fashion steam train. Visit during the Labor Day Reunion and see Gunslingers robbing the train. Other events throughout the year include Ghost Train in October & North Pole Express in December. More than one stream locomotives call this home, as well as other vehicles such as a 1923 Model T & 1930 Model A trucks, and switchers.
