Located on the University of Kansas this free museum is stylish and well curated. They always have local exhibitions plus some works from their permanent collection including Thomas Hart Benton of course.

The Spencer Museum of Art, located on the KU Campus, is a small but well curated art museum that has a good permanent collection combined with ever-changing selections. Parking at the KU Student Union lot across the street is convenient.

I was pleasantly surprised when I visited the small Spencer museum in Lawrence. It was larger than I expected and had some very interesting works of art. The museum had a nice layout over two floors and pieces were not packed together. I thought it...More

The Spencer clearly has some gems in its collection and is definitely worth a visit. However, the display of the collection feels like a mish mash of pieces thrown together, often not making sense of how works relate.

Very nice museum easily seen in a couple hours. We went especially for an exhibit called "Big Botany," seemingly drawn mostly from the museum's own collection. Very impressive! A quick glance at the rest of the place showed a variety worth going back to see.
