The Territorial Capital Museum is an award-winning historic site chronicling the history of Lecompton from the tumultuous, controversial territorial days to the delightfully quaint present. Housed in the stone Lane University building, where President Eisenhower's parents met and married, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Lane University was built on the foundation of the started, but not completed, state capitol building. Lecompton was the official territorial capital of Kansas from 1855-1861.

Admission by donation. Plenty of free parking. Three floors of local history. Very well displayed and maintained. Docents very friendly , helpful, informative without intruding on a self guided tour. Excellent history lesson for all ages.

Great history and 3 floors of artifacts of the Territorial capital, Kansas territory and state, and general artifacts and some history of life at the time. A few displays seemed irrelevant. History details not commonly found in textbooks. Bathrooms in basement. Stairs are very steep....More
