The Hanging Rock Winery was established in 1983 in the Macedon Ranges (Australia’s Coolest grape growing region), one hour drive from Melbourne, Victoria. The property was purchased by John & Ann Ellis who between them already had around 30 years...more
I don't like giving poor reviews (the majority of my reviews on this site are positive) but this visit was such a disappointment. We walked into sound of loud sports commentary and barely a greeting. We were on holiday and happy but the man (Andrew)...More
We went to the winery as we were around the area and read amazing reviews of the place.
Upon arrival, we were the only ones there and was surprised at the lack of warmth and welcome by the male staff member. No greetings whatsoever.
Called in 3pm on a long weekend Sunday. Rang doorbell twice and despite hearing someone inside no-one came out to let us in. When we banged on the door heard someone say something but yet again no-one came. After a further 5 minutes our party...More

I'm really sorry about this. I was there when you came, the door was open, I walked in right after you left. Our Cellar Door manager had a big handful of glasses and couldn't come to the door to let you in. I'm very sorry...More
We have visited a lot of wineries in Victoria and SA and this will now join the list of favourites. Beautiful complex wines - not a bad one for our palates and we can be picky. Definitely try the Riesling as this was delicious! Must...More

Thank you for your great review. i'm so glad that you were so well looked after and that you enjoyed the wines. Being a small family business reading reviews like this is extra special for us as we put a lot of love...More
This is such a lovely spot for wine tasting. The wines were excellent, and the view of Hanging Rock makes a magnificent back drop. The person conducting the wine tasting was very knowledgable of the wines.
We called in during the Budburst Festival last weekend (we didnt plan to be there during the festival), and whilst the mini-bus loads of people hogging the tasting tables detracted from the experience, the people from the winery did their best to make us feel...More
When I arrived at the winery last Sunday there was a bus load of people there on a winery tour, and I thought I’d probably not get served or have to wait until they were finished. But I was pleasantly surprised the lovely man serving...More

Thank you very much for your lovely review. I'm so glad to hear that Andrew was still able to accommodate you despite the big bus and that you enjoyed the wines. I will show Andrew this review which is sure to make his...More
Hanging Rock is an amazing place, but the winery of the same name is pretty average. Wines are nowhere near the quality of the wines we tried at Armstead Wines just outside of Heathcoat, Victoria. The person presenting the wine tasting gave off the suggestion...More
Thank you very much for your enquiry. I'm afraid we haven't had accommodation here for nearly 10 years. To make it worse, the people who bought it are now using it as their home, so it is no longer accommodation... More
Thank you very much for your enquiry. I'm afraid we haven't had accommodation here for nearly 10 years. To make it worse, the people who bought it are now using it as their home, so it is no longer accommodation. If you are looking for something similar we really love Braeside in Mount Macedon, lovely B&B. I hope that helps.
