Overview
More
Birthplace of Loretta Lynn. When Loretta Lynn belted, "Well, I was born a coal miner's daughter/In a cabin on a hill in Butcher Hollow," it not only skyrockted "The Queen of Country Music" to additional fame outside the realm of country music fans, but it merited her the everlasting respect of every person connected directly or indirectly with coal mining or mountain life. Visit Butcher Hollow, located in scenic Johnson County. Loretta's brother, Herman Webb, is curator of the Butcher Hollow Home.

It was beautiful county home, and the guide was excellent! I would recommend to anyone. So many people need to see how people lived that worked in cold mines!

We did not go into the cabin but viewed it from the outside. Very remote area but a pretty scenic drive. Nothing special on outside wished we would have gone in.

If you're in the area, you gotta see see it. It's so quaint and historic. It's America's heartland of music and struggles. We were touched and impressed. It represents how someone with humble beginnings can prosper and excel in this great country.

It's like stepping back in time. Very neat to see Loretta Lynn's birthplace. Country store is neat also. Tour bus (holds 12 people) takes you from country store to Butcher Hollow.

Great information about Loretta. You stop at the general store and ask for Herman. If you go to Paintsville visitor center for directions. The gentleman giving tours has lots of info to share.

We called Webb's General Store. They will be able to tell you all the information. They even told us in case of rain they would do their best to still do the tour as long as it wasn't a gully washer.
