It is a beautiful old building and I not sure if services are done there anymore as there was a sign with services elsewhere. The church was closed, but is on the path climbing up the hill which makes a nice half hour walk.

What a beautiful sight seeing this stunning old church in Port Chalmers. Unfortunately it’s only open during cruise ship season which is a shame would’ve loved to see the inside of it too

The Iona Church building, built more than 100 years ago (in 1883) is a truly old but historical beautiful building with its structure designed by N.Y.A.Wales. It should be a beautiful old church. However we can only see from outside, because, either not on Sunday...More

The history of families in and around Port Chalmers can, for some families, start here at this significant church. We'll worth a visit just for the building itself, Iona Church uncovered information regarding our visiting nephew's family which is of huge interest in his genealogy...More

I suppose most people head immediately for Dunedin if they have arrived in Port Chalmers on a cruise ship, as we did. From the quayside but with better views as you leave Port Chalmers Port you will get a really good view of the church....More

Great old church above the tiny little town. Great old gothic styling on the outside and the outdoor terrace has great views of the town and port. The volunteers are all very friendly and informative too.

We went inside this classic church it has a massive piped organ and huge belly at the top, we heard it ring. It's only short walk from the town up on the hill beautiful stained glass windows and balcony seating inside.

We were in a cruise and wandered into port charmers ( about a 5 min walk) and came across this church. It is worth popping inside, there was a lady playing the organ and a bit of history inside about when this was a bustling...More

The church itself is accessible to view in but the walk up from town is a little steep and then a little driveway up to the church itself. I had a couple ask me was it worth continuing up to the church itself. The outside... More
