Just got back home from visiting San Francisco, Laura and Oak Alley plantation homes yesterday. San Francisco is the most colorful of plantation homes in Louisiana and is in fair shape for its age. A crew of Marathon employees were making repairs yesterday but were rather quiet and respectful of the tour. It has a few very nice outbuildings left... More

My sister and I visited this beautiful home and were extremely impressed with our tour guide Jabria. She is very knowledgeable about the home and answered any and all questions we had with lots of fun and laughter. Thank you Jabria.

Worth seeing as a plantation experience. I've seen other plantations (Destrehan, Laura, Oak Alley, and Houmas) and this one is similar in many respects but also different. Surrounded by industry, there is not a large plantation feel like you get at Oak Alley. Interesting facts: the brick floor on the bottom floor allows water to go through it. Only 2... More

The plantation with some imagination must have been impressive in it's day. It has undergone restoration to some extent but there is a lot in just minor maintenance that could be done to help it's appearance. The grounds are lovely. The sad part about our tour was the guide ( Stacy?). She barely knew her script . If anyone asked... More

San Francisco Plantation is one of the most opulent and architecturally distinctive plantation houses in the South. With its melange of architectural designs, this ornate mansion offers a remarkable variation on the plantation style commonly found along the Great River Road in Louisiana. From certain angles, San Francisco resembles a Mississippi riverboat or a giant layer cake. It offers a... More

On our honeymoon and had our own "private" tour this morning. We were the only two people to show up for the first tour. The guide was great, very informative and happy to answer a few questions. Due to the levee being moved directly in front of the house and Marathon surrounding the property this plantation lacks the extensive grounds... More

This property is a nicely resorted home but most of the surrounding property is oil refining. My tour guide Chelsea (?) was informative and helpful. The tour is at your own pace and we had a small group. I would definitely recommend it. Photos are allowed on the grounds but not inside the house.

My wife and I arrived at the San Francisco plantation home in Garyville, Louisiana right in the middle of the great South Louisiana flood of August, 2016. As we pulled into the parking lot, the rain was falling so fast, it was difficult to see. We did notice the unusual color of the house with which we were already familiar--a... More

I wouldn't waste my time again. Tour Guide had no personal interaction with us. She talked to the ceiling screaming her memorized lines (which she didn't know well) and got offended when one of us tried to take pictures and snapped at her. Plantation itself is filthy and unkept. Dust and spider webs everywhere and it smells horrible. Was raining... More

After having visited Laura Plantation the San Francisco Plantation was a true disappointment. Not only was the mansion not in it's best shape, but also the tour guide wasn't. She acted angry and strict towards us and she told the story about the house without any emotion or fun. They might have given us a tape recorder instead. Not a... More
