Our tour guide was like a member of our family, being generous with all types of information. She was a relative of one of the plantation descendants and just full of personal info. Her manner was very pleasant and informative... as she is retired teacher, filling us in on all the house and way of life had to offer and... More

It is very nice and something you should see. Not as fancy as it's neighbor but a very good idea of how the working plantations were. Part of it is Felicity which has been used for many film productions including Twelve Years a Slave.

If we had taken one of the guided tours we had seen in some of the area brochures we would have likely miss this marvelous plantation. We found the staff very knowledgeable and articulate in presenting the wonderful facts and history of this historic gem.

Really enjoyed our tour. Tour guide was knowledgeable and pleasant. Liked that the family was still involved in the running of the plantation and that it was still active in sugar cane production. Lovely little gift shop. Would recommend. It isn't as developed as some of the other plantation tours but it is a diamond in the rough with a... More

Visiting plantations is one of our favorite mini adventures, and The St. Joseph Plantation was a very pleasant surprise. The staff was personable, and very knowledgeable. The main house is lovely and homey. The grounds are larger than expected, and fun to explore. If you enjoy plantations, don't miss this one!

If you have a car, skip the tours. St. Joseph's gives you an idea of real life on a plantation rather than the "Finer furnishings" and grandeur of the day. Excellent tour by docents that could be a family member of the many generations that have owned St. Joseph's. Make sure to visit the out buildings immediately around the main... More

Thank you for taking the time to respond. We are so happy that you enjoyed your visit. Since my great, great, great grandfather bought St. Joseph in the 1870s, it is dear to my heart. We are happy to be able to share our history with you as well as the history of the other owners of the house. More

My children and I recently took the plantation tour here. The tour consists of going through the house with a guide. You can wander around the yard yourself to walk through the slave houses. Although the guided portion was informative and it was neat to find out that the house was used in several big name movies, I was incredibly... More

I stopped at St Joseph after Oak Alley (they're adjacent to each other), and in many ways I preferred it. The grounds aren't quite as spectacular, and the displays and "tourist experience" aren't nearly as developed, but it wins in personal appeal. I was given a tour by a descendant of the owners from the 1800s, who had personal anecdotes... More

Had I paid full price this would be a lower rating. their admission, compared to oak alley Plantation moments away bares no logic. That said with my Groupon... We were led on an interesting tour of the house by a descendent of a family that bought the land in, 1870. Discussed a lot of the history of the area and... More

We were enthralled with the "funeral" atmosphere. Everything is speaking of death. Most unusual, but quite entertaining and educational. Highly recommend this place.
