- Lisa SGarland, Texas53 contributionsBeautiful and worth the visitShort drive from Edinburgh or Glasgow. Mind the roads if self driving, single carriage and narrow. Can be middy so dress appropriately. No access to inside but full access to outside and grounds. Recommended for all but especially outlander fans. Man that runs the ticket booth is very kind and knowledgeable.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 October 2023
- Susan C9 contributionsOutlander’s iconic “Lallybroch”A must see for any self respecting Outlander fan. We even met 80’s Bree!! Great to see the iconic location in the flesh so to speak. The kiosk at the entrance sells “Lallybroch” keys for £2 so you can let yourself in whenever you like.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 November 2023
- Chaz KingKnoxville, Tennessee314 contributionsMidhope (Lallybroch) CastleMy wife was/is really into Outlander and I didn’t want her to miss “Lallybroch! It’s not a bad drive out minus the crazy Scottish roundabouts and we hit it just right after a tour bus. It’s 7 pounds for access and I’d get there on a weekday in the afternoon. Just a nice visit and we really enjoyed the guy in the ticket booth.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 April 2024
- Paul BChirnside Park, Australia1,051 contributionsQuaint and for Outlander Fans!Visited the castle first with pre purchased tickets. Only open some days and advise to get there early and before Hopetoun House Limited parking but people there to direct you. Short walk and very interesting, with big poster of outlander scenes just past ticket office. Lots of people getting photos on steps and everyone was courteous to each other which was nice.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 June 2024

We visited on a fairly wet day and were a bit underwhelmed. Only takes 15 mins to see the outside and read the information. Felt it was a bit overpriced for what it is - interesting historic site but could be more like £2 per person since you don’t go in. However, would recommend a trip to South Queensferry afterwards, great cafes and gift shops.

£4.80 something each to walk round the house and get a quick photo. I was so glad I got to go here as I am a total superfan lol but my husband couldn't believe we got charged to take the photo of the outside of a house lol! You will spend 5 mins here!
When u walk back down towards the card park on your left hand side u will see a small woodland path and it takes you a walk through the woods to the beach where u can view blackness castle and the forth bridges from afar. Glad we went as we found this little gem of a walk.....

Outlander of course!
Lallybroch
£6 per person to go and have a close look at the front only. Not inside or even round the back. Bit extortionate but the Outlander fans wont hesitate paying! We didn't. Lots of people coming for their photo opportunities. Poor people who live nearby with all these people coming!
You're watched by a guy sitting in his car. Security keep the place safe I guess. Everyone wants a piece of TV history.
Prices are adjusted due to filming tidying. Good to know the cast is still nearby.
The building is impressive true enough. So glad I came to see it for myself. I can imagine Jamie and Claire wandering about :0)
I only hope the money spent on entry goes towards helping to restore this building.

This is a must for an Outlander fan, Lallybroch. Considering it’s a derelict building it’s in pretty good condition on the outside. You are not allowed inside. You have to pay to visit, the guy on the gate is a lovely man and tells you were and what the scenes were filmed roundabout. If you wanted to stay in the area he has a B&Q at the end of the road which he said the programme has changed his and his families life which was nice. If you watch the series the woods you will recognise for scenes shot there.

If you are an Outlander fan, Midhope is a must. Walking up to the castle from the drive was surreal because it is identical (save some telephone wires) from what you see in the show. We were lucky enough to have the place all to ourselves for pictures and it was a perfect start to our Scotland vacation. It's true that the inside is not open to the public, but I wish a super fan would renovate it and turn it into a B&B! The woods surrounding the castle are beautiful as well. I would take a few minutes to head down to the stream just to the opposite side of the car park. Parking was a bit steep, but well worth it in my opinion. Beware that your kids (and probably your spouse) won't get it and will be nagging you to leave, but I absolutely loved it.

Came to visit as fans of Outlander. You get charged £7 per adult to walk up a drive take some pictures and that's your lot. Appreciate the building is a ruin so worth only a payment of £2.50. Would recommend you just stand by the entrance and zoom in with your camera

For outlander fans, this is a five star. Well worth the five dollars per person. It is true that all you can do is walk around the exterior. You can peek in the windows and see that it’s very dilapidated. The man at the gate ( I wish I could remember his name) talked with us for a long time and shared the history Of the property andstories of the Outlander filming here. Enjoyed my visit to Lallybroch!

Outlander fans will love seeing "Lallybroch". We got tix for early morning in April, so we got great photos before other people arrived. You cannot go inside (it's derelict), but the outside is fairly intact. Was definitely worth the admission price to me.

It was amazing to stand on the driveway of Lallybroch, we’re both huge fans so it was worth it for us. It’s only about 100’ from the car park and a good track on a gentle incline, perfectly accessible for anyone. The castle is a ruin and you can’t go inside but we still enjoyed our trip.
£10 for 2 tickets and parking, don’t follow the map link on the ticket, search google maps for midhope castle instead.

We are planning to go via train from Edinburgh to Midhope castle, do I need to get us train tickets ahead of time or does the train run regularly? Also how far out of town is the castle?
Written 14 August 2023

We are taking a Timberbush Outlander tour on 4/13/20, which is Easter Monday. Will Midhope be open that day?
Written 1 February 2020
I have no idea. I suggest you look up Hopetoun Website. Midhope is part of this estate and they will know when it is open. If it’s not on the website, they will have a contact email or phone number you can contact.

Hola, quiero ir a midhope castle. Podría ir en taxi? Donde se compran las entradas? Gracias!!
Written 19 January 2020
Hola Patrissss...

I would really like to go there, but not in a tour. We would also not like to hire a car for just going there and back, but I guess none of you traveled with public transport? It seems to be quite complicated starting from Edinburgh. Thanks.
