    Great morning, relaxed tour
We had a morning looking around the house and grounds - staff were very pleasant and knowledgeable. Whole experience was interesting and we left feeling happy. There is a relaxed feel to the experience - you can wander at will and ask questions in various parts of the house. We really enjoyed our morning there
Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are delighted you felt relaxed as this is what we aim to achieve with our visitors. You are being welcomed into a home and we want you to feel completely at ease. We hope you can visit again soon. Warm regards The Hopetoun House Team

    Stunning
Absolutely stunning, what an impressive view of the house you get driving towards it, it really is something else Lots to see inside the house with information cards in every room. There are guided tours available but I just wandered round myself. Went to the cafe for soup which was delicious. The weather wasn't that great so I didn't manage a walk in the grounds so I will definitely be back for another look around the house and a walk round the grounds.
Thank you for your wonderful feedback. Our café is managed by Heritage Portfolio and we will certainly share your feedback with them. Warm regards The Hopetoun House Team

Amazing house and grounds esp for Outlander fans
Amazing place to visit. House was interesting and we just made it for a guided tour. It was interesting but maybe a little longer than necessary. Incredibly country estate to explore too with interesting flora and fauna. We even saw a group of deer with a stag. Also interesting if an Outlander fan as parts of the house and grounds were used as filming locations. Use info guide to show the various places.

    Wonderful visit and guided tour!!
Hopetoun well exceeded our expectations - partly due to the terrific 2pm guided tour we took last Sunday afternoon. The guide was wonderful and brought everything to life - took about 1 hour. The rooms are great, as is the history (even if not familiar with Outlander) and location superb. Great visit!

Took my 92 year old mother. What a delight this place is. The volunteers are so helpful and welcoming. A beautiful place, interesting to visit and accessable with disabilities. Thank you for a fabulous few hours.

    Imposing building
What a delightful place to visit very imposing as you drive in, there is such a lot to see. After viewing the rooms we went on to the roof where you get some wonderful views of the grounds & the 3 Forth bridges. The grounds were also very interesting & as my wife is an Outlander fan we were able to see the different areas of filming. All in all a delightful visit.

    Tree-mendous guided walk!
Went on the guided Tree-walk with my daughter around Hopetoun House. Guide for the group was the ranger Emma. It was a fantastic walk through the grounds and woodland and Emma had a lot of knowledge, not only about the trees but also about fungi and the house and grounds. She was approachable and funny and had time for everyone’s questions. I’ll probably go on other guided tours and I can warmly recommend a visit.

    Wonderful Christmas Market
I visited Hopetoun House Christmas market today and what a fabulous day I had. Firstly I was met by very friendly welcoming staff at the ticket office who checked my online ticket (tickets can only be purchased online) and directed me to parking. There I was directed to a parking space by a young lady who clearly knew what she was doing. When I was on the forecourt a lady in hi viz directed me to the toilets and the best place to start the visit. The stalls had a great variation of products, all very reasonably priced. Because you were given a time slot to arrive but could stay as long as you wanted, there wasn’t huge crowds pushing their way past you. I had coffee and a sweet treat from a coffee truck outside which was lovely and there were chairs and tables available to sit under cover. The stalls were dotted around the house so it was lovely to see part of the house also. It was a beautiful day so I had a short walk in the gardens. Well done Hopetoun House, lots of very friendly staff on duty, very well organised, with a great variety of stalls to cater for every budget. I will definitely be back

Christmas Fair well worth a visit. Just love this place.
Again visited the Christmas Fair this year on Saturday, always a great start to Christmas. The entertainment was excellent and loads of fantastic exhibitors to choose from. A shout out to the ladies ensuring the café ran smoothly, great improvement to queues and being able to get a seat once you had your food. Well done guys. The food was lovely as always. Also love the banter with the guides. When I asked one where Santa was this year she went into a great story about issues in Lapland etc. that morning, what a hoot. It just adds to the enjoyment of the day. Don’t miss it next year if you get the chance.

    Snowdrop Festival Weekend
Special weekend opening for the Snowdrop Festival. Had a fantastic visit. The house is very impressive with lots to see and do. Guides very welcoming and knowledgeable. Grounds were lovely and the snowdrops spectacular. Nice cafe however I personally feel that it was overpriced for what you get and by 1pm there were few choices left for a snack/ lunch. Service in the cafe was slow although all the staff were very pleasant.

Take your time touring and getting information from the lovely guides positioned throughout the house. Try to precooked at it is simpler. If you are lucky the spiral staircase will be open to the magnificent rooftop views.
Make sure you use the cafe as the food was delicious.
Take one of the walks. We did the spring walk and there are extra points of interest scattered along the walk. We even got to see deer in the park next door.

Stunning property on the outskirts of Edinburgh . If using Sat Nav make sure you put the Post Code and address in correctly and look for the signage or you will be led on a merry dance around the area without actually getting to the House!
Spectacular view of the house on the approach down the sweeping driveway and you park on a gravel car park some distance from the house. On approaching the house you can visit the wing on your left before entering the main building through the steps up to the front door. Surprisingly for a house of this splendour the front entrance is remarkably unimpressive. Once inside though ,the mood changes and there are some stunning rooms to see.The guides to the house are very friendly and helpful without being obtrusive . It was lovely to see the splendour of the main rooms but we particularly liked the butlers room and scullery showing how the other half lived and worked. If you can make it up to the roof view point it is well worth the effort for the views of the Queensferry Bridge and Forth bridges. + the roof top and surrounding grounds.
We didn't have time to go around the grounds, used the Stable Cafe for a cup of tea which was not very good considering the price and not much food on offer.
Well worth visiting and some good walks in the grounds if you have time.

Stopped off here on way to Linlithgow. Lovely greeting by the lady in the hut who explained where to go and what to do.
We spent a good few hours wandering the grounds and house. Staff very informative around the house. We hit lucky and saw the windmill chime on the hour on the Dutch clock. We had a picnic in the car park but only because the weather could have been a bit warmer and we wanted to eat first before going around the house and grounds. Amazing view of Blackness castle from the grounds. We were lucky enough to see a deer who jumped out of the woods right in front of us. Great views from the top of the tower , could even see a cruise ship docked at Queensferry
A lovely pit stop after a long drive before heading off to Linlithgow for a few days.

It is an impressive first impression you get as you drive up to Hopetoun House. In reception, we were greeted by Lindsay who gave us the background about the Hope family and their stately home. There are volunteers in some rooms ready to provide more information and stories. Don’t miss out on the views from the tower. We stayed for lunch in the cafe which was very nice too. Then walked it off in the grounds.

We had a fantastic day out at The Snowdrop Festival.
Lovely dog friendly grounds ,where parts of Outlander were filmed .
The house itself is interesting and the people who work there were friendly and helpful.
We went to the cafe around 1.30 for a light lunch . All that was left was grossly overpriced stovies at £9 and macaroni cheese served in a paper bowl. Fried egg rolls were available or a packet of crisps.
No biscuits or bakery items
We had a coffee each, which was OK, but again overpriced. The paper cups were literally only half filled.
If you are thinking of visiting, take a picnic .
Unfortunately, the cafe really spoils a fantastic location to visit.

Went for the snowdrop walk, staff all very pleasant.
Grounds lovely to walk in though snowdrop display underwhelming.
Map we were given of the grounds was very poor.
The main downside was the food - or lack of it, in the Stables Cafe, very limited choice and very expensive.
Sad reflection of Scottish Fayre .

We were at Hopetoun's Snowdrop Festival and thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The highlight for us was the visit to the House itself. It is a self-guided tour but the guides situated throughout the mansion were very helpful, knowledgeable and welcoming. The grounds are beautiful and the snowdrops were outstanding. Our only disappointment was the cafe situated in the magnificent stables. It was significantly overpriced and with a very limited selection of food. A small cup of soup and a cheese scone was £8. We'll take a picnic next time.

We went to the Christmas Fair and it was such a great experience with our 6 months old baby! We arrived on Friday around 11am and it was super buzzy. All the staff was extremely helpful and welcoming. There was so many stalls, the decoration was fabulous. We found a little ABC for our nursery. We highly recommend to take a visit if you can next year to start the festive period.
