We (my husband, 9 yr old son and I) love going to Mt. Hope. It is so picturesque with what seems like miles of pathways amongst the very old monuments and markers. There are two large groups of mallards that live in the ponds who we like to take treats to. Also, especially in the early summer, the ponds and... More

I've been fortunate to have had this property accessible my whole life, growing up just minutes away. This is the 2nd oldest garden cemetery in the United States, being modeled after Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Boston, MA. Many of Bangor's then-elite preferred this resting ground, including US VP Hannibal Hamlin, as well as numerous Senators, Governors, Congressmen, etc. Numerous "lumber... More

Even without the Stephen King references, this is a very cool old cemetery, with a variety of landscape and architectural quirks to make it interesting. We watched King's "Pet Cemetery" and then had fun visiting the sites shown in the movie, which was a cool thing to do.

Great place to walk or bike through and stop along the way to catch glimpses of history. I recommend looking into the cemetary online so you have some awareness of what to watch out for and who is buried here.

We recently visited the Mount Hope Cemetery on the recommendation of a friend while visiting Bangor. I normally wouldn't visit a cemetery except for obvious reasons, but we took and chance and made the trip. It was shocking in how lovely and serene a place it was. I enjoyed looking at all of the old markers and especially captivated by... More

Great walking area, very somber and spooky at dusk. Many paths to wander down and enjoy the fall leaves and with it being the backdrop for pet cemetery by Stephen king is just a bonus! Enjoy the place but remember to be respectful as many people you see are there to visit loved ones who have gone on.

Unusual, I know, but this is a wonderful place to take a walk or just enjoy the fall leaves. It was part of the SK Tours of Maine (Some scenes from Stephen King's Pet Cemetery were filmed here.) and was so beautiful, we went back after the tour. You won't be disappointed.
