We visit lighthouses where ever we go. We live on the water and always are enchanted by lighthouses and the stories behind them. This is a very nice one that we recommend for you to visit.

I really enjoyed the walk/climb to the water's edge. It was a sunny day, so I was wearing sandals. I would suggest wearing more appropriate shoes.

It was a nice morning walk to get here. We tried to get a sunrise pix, but our luck is that normally does not work and the luck played out. Very nice sitting and listening to the birds wake up.

If you have an extra hour in Castine, this is a great way to spend it. You might even have the path all to yourself, with great photo opportunities of the lighthouse on the way back up.

Now in private hands, you still are allowed on the grounds, and to walk the foot path to the waters edge. It was worth the effort even though the view is most obstructed by tree.

The trail from the lighthouse to the ocean is steep and has lots of vegetation. Keep left as you decent and you come to a set of 49 steps that leads to rock outcroppings at the water's edge. Nice private spot for enjoying nature and the passing boats.

So lucky to have this so you can walk up and view it. Looks like it has had a fresh coat of paint and it looked so beautiful.

A short walk to your private view of the bay. Older kids can climb the rocks. Ours (6 and 9) could appreciate just how beautiful a spot this is. A great stop during your day in Castine.

It's a great foot path and but ends up a bit rocky...I needed my walking stick to help me keep my balance. It also takes you down steep steps to where the old lighthouse was located. Just take your time and explore!!!

Maritime Maine must see! The walk down to the shore is beautiful! Views from the lighthouse are excellent, especially when the lighthouse is open for touring.
