Its a short walk down to the ocean and Barred Island. It is so beautiful once you make it to the beach. I'd recommend going as the tide is going out so you can explore the island and the tide pools.

Most information about this preserve suggests planning your trip around low tide - so most visitors shoot for low tide and the parking area is often full. But the unique part of your visit will be walking through one of the best fog forests (moss!!!)...More

I can not say enough about this magical place. Worth every step. The beach is beautiful and the walk around the island is breath taking ....I have been there twice and still enjoy every moment. A must see in Maine

If you park at the Cockatoo restaurant the walk is a lot shorter and easier, plus you can have a great drink at the end.

The local heritage trust offers a number of hikes, and we thought this one was the best. Well maintained and well marked, it travels through the forest and ends at the shore. At low tide, you can walk over the sand bar to Barred Island....More

Parking limited, go early, not a crowded place, know the times of tides as it is worth crossing out to the island at low tide. Pretty hike,

If you are looking for a lovely way to spend an hour or so in nature, this is a beautiful walk, although a bit challenging with the root system so near the surface. If the tide is low, you can walk to Barred Island, definitely...More
