Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This one-way city street ran thru the Old Port from Commercial Street uphill past Post Office Plaza to its end at Congress Street. Its narrow mostly brick sidewalks were rough in spots. Among the shops I checked out were Arcana, Guven Gallery, Fore River Gallery, Re-Session Skate and Snow, and The Head Shed. I most liked the selection of menswear at David Wood Clothiers. Metered curbside parking was available but hard to snag. Easier nearby garage parking was at Temple Street; another garage was at One City Center. Note that some Old Port garages only accept cash. Others only accept plastic. By day Market Street seemed safe enough, but I wouldn’t walk it alone late at night when area bars close.

If you love to shop and enjoy great restaurants, this is where you want to be. Actually, Exchange Street has amazing stores and it is one or two blocks from Market Street. There are parks nearby when we tire of shopping and strolling. Portland, ME is a charming city with so much to offer.

Portland Maine is a beautiful place to visit it takes you back in time and is a great adventure for the entire family. Being by the water you can imagine old pirate ships coming in with lots of treasures. The state parks are a must a must see, and the food is local seafood and very fresh caught the same day. We even brought back live lobsters to my parents that were dog sitting. A lot of fun for everyone. Denise from New York

This is one of the streets in Portland that we wandered along while on a DIY walking tour from the cruise port. A few shops and restaurants to check out. To be honest we did not find Portland that interesting,

Great city. Coming from the south (New Orleans), the weather was perfect. I took a boat tour from the harbor and learn a lot about the lighthouses and the beaches. Very relaxing city for a getaway!

We were here both during the day and at night. Make sure you have space on your camera - so much to see and capture. Fun shops. Great food.
