Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stumbled upon a couple of these so decided to try to find them all but failed. We gave up after we could not find the sun. Was not worth the effort for us, but if someone was very into planets it might be.

Had a fun time searching for all the planets on my drive along US 1. Most of them (5) are located here in Presque Isle. That's when it gets hard. You need to find the locations on the map first and it would be helpful to have someone looking for you as you drive through town. I did miss a couple of them here and couldn't spend a lot of timing circling back to find them.

Great idea and project. Made a long drive seem short and fun.

Mercury at Griffeth Honda has been taken down- we checked and they said the university took it down but they’re relocating it- likely across the street. Houlton visitor center was closed, but there was a Pluto plaque in Folsom Hall by the beam of the sun.

Have driven by this model several times in my travels over several years. An interesting model built I believe to scale, giving an idea of the relative distance between our solar systems Planets.

I loved the whole idea of this, but it's difficult to do without someone riding shotgun looking for the planets. Unfortunately Covid had the UMPI campus pretty much shut down, so I never got the full gist of the sun. Still, covid or not, I really enjoyed the experience.

Stretching from Houlton to Presque Isle this model solar system is amazing. At 1 mile equals 93,000,000 miles it helps one imagine the vastness of space. You can do some homework on line to find the approximate locations of the planets to make them easier to find while driving on Route 1. Most have little parking areas to stop to read signs and take picture. Two are in buildings. The Sun at Folsom Hall at UMPI and Pluto at the Visitor's Center in Houlton. On our trip Folsom Hall was closed due to Covid but the Visitor's Center was open.

We had fun traveling along the Solar System model in Maine. A little bit scavenger hunt, and a deeper understanding of sizes and distances in the Solar System. The Sun replica was VERY hard to find as it is indoors and not what I had expected, but still cool! We did not find the Earth model, but later saw the huge Earth model inside the Garmin Headquarters.

Being from and living in Maine, I'd heard of these when they were installed. Got to set up a trip 'Up North' and added these to our destinations. Even though US Rte. 1 is a lot of straight shot highway, you WILL miss these without coordinating map locations and vehicle GPS. Super idea, especially well suited for this highway and having 'Mars Hill' in the middle of it all.

starting in Presque Isle they have scale models of the 9 (yes it was made when Pluto was formally a planet) and their major moons arranged along Route 1 at intervals to scale distance. Really brings home how far the planets are from each other with the inner 4 almost right in Presque Isle and the rest all the way to Houlton. Great educational display! Look for tiny Pluto in the glass case at the Houlton rest area and information.
