Massive stone fortifications that never saw a shot fired in anger. But an impressive piece of engineering. Interpreters on site were very helpful and fun to talk to.

They have many events they have throughout the years. Our favorite is freight at the fort. It is where they turn the fort into a haunted house. It is amazing. They also do historic tours and other summer events. Pick your favorite and go!

Fort Knox was built in the mid 1800s but was never actually used in battle. There are endless places to explore, beautiful park grounds, and the view across the by to Penobscot is lovely. Great place to picnic and run around. Kids would have fun exploring.

This was extremely interesting. Be sure to join a guided tour to learn as much as possible about the fort and its origins. There is an underground tunnel that leads from the fort to the coast so that the soldiers would not be detected guarding the coast. It's in a scenic location, the grounds are well taken care of, and... More

Since we stopped at the Penobscot Narrows Bridge, we decided to take a few minutes to go to Fort Knox as well.  I’m not a history buff, but I was disappointed in all of the cheap Halloween decorations outside of the Fort.  They were also starting to ‘decorate’ the Fort for the upcoming fright nights.  I’m guessing this is a... Yes, Fright at the Fort has taken place for seventeen years and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. This helps the nonprofit organization to restore and maintain the Fort. The Fort is managed, maintained and operated with no taxpayer funds. The Fort is open from May 1 to October 31, each year. We are sorry that the decorations distracted you... More

We drove passed the fort and decided to check it out. Price was decent for a quick stop ($4.5 for adult) and we were glad to stopped. The fort is interesting to roam through with the cannons and corridors swirling around. They were also preparing for Halloween adventures in the fort which should be a fun experience as they seemed... More

We got there as the leaves were turning and from the top of the narrows bridge it has to be one of the best views of the area you can find. It's a long way to the top of the bridge tower but well worth the time. And take the time to walk around the fort, very peaceful and a... More

We were going to just make a quick stop here on the way to Bar Harbor and take some pictures, but are we glad we did. We took a ride up the elevators to the top of the bridge and got some great views. Then we explored the fort and it was incredible. The kids loved exploring all the passageways.... More

It is nice fort to walk around. The views across the water of Bucksport in the fall were perfect. Also great views of the bridge.
