The Maine Lighthouse Museum is a must see when visiting Rockland. From ship models to Fresnel Lighthouse Lens', you can experience the Maine maritime tradition from the shore. The museum has a fantastic collection of lighthouse artifacts along with many maritime pieces that will excite your imagination of the history of seafaring. The fishing industry was not all peaches and... More

With a unique and extensive collection of lighthouse artifacts, this museum is fascinating for anyone interested in learning more about lighthouses and life on the ocean coast. It's a great museum that is preserving and sharing an important aspect of American history. Several videos provide greater detail about lenses and the history of Maine lighthouses, but there is something for... More

Simething here for every member of the family. I particularly enjoyed reading about all the women who worked/lived at the lighthouses. All sorts of equipment, lighthouse replicas, lights, clothing to appease all.

We visited the museum because we didn't know much about light houses. They have so much info there and the exhibits are nicely done. There is an hour long movie plus 4-5 big rooms of exhibits telling the history of light houses. The cost is $8 or $6 if you are a senior.

I love lighthouses so as I was driving up the coast we stopped here. The little ladies that run the place were friendly and helpful. It was full of so much information and pieces of lighthouses. It was cool to see some of the bulbs up so close. They also had a nice view of the water from the little... More

Quite frankly, we stopped in almost as much for the A/C as for the lighthouse information....but once we were inside, we found it quite interesting & informative. Glad we stopped.

By far the best museum in Maine and perhaps in all of New England. The collection is beyond amazing. Also, a wonderful gift shop. Any visit to Maine. must include the Maine Lighthouse Museum, a place for the entire family to enjoy.

We learned so much about lighthouses and particularly their history in the U.S. and their role in our development. Great info on how they worked, stories about the people who ran them and the government's role in their upkeep. More info than you can absorb in one visit. Also - I'm not a big gift-shop fan, but they had a... More
