Description:

We welcome you to visit one of the most extraordinary places on the coast...

We welcome you to visit one of the most extraordinary places on the coast of Maine. The Deer Isle-Stonington archipelago in Penobscot Bay is a unique and breathtaking area, home to the largest concentration of bald eagles in the lower 48 States, and over 60 uninhabited islands. It is well known to be the destination of choice for kayakers, sailors, campers, and any nature enthusiast. People from all over the world come to this place because of the quiet, un-spoiled and awe-inspiring environment. They come to Old Quarry because we provide the perfect access to this magical body of water, where seals and porpoises thrive and sea birds are abundant, where historic windjammers sail, and lighthouses stand stalwartly on rocky cliffs as sentinels of the night.

I just wish I could have stayed longer than 4 nights! Campsite was steps from the water and a perfect stone boat launch. The Settlement Quarry Preserve is a short and rewarding hike from the camp. The town of Stonington is an hours paddle or a 7 minute drive.

We stayed for three nights on the Big House. Bill , the owner, who also created this small heaven on earth location, lives in the house, and stays privately in a separate spot. We were in "Master Bedroom Right", the smaller of the two rooms for rent, but very spacious, and lots of Windows. It is not "upscale living", but... More

We rented an old sailboat hull with an 8 hp outboard motor for a 4 hour trip around the islands. No problems at all except that the boat was quite uncomfortable.

I rented kayaks for the week. The kayaks were there when I got there as promised. We had a great week with them. The Maine coast is perfect fit them. Excellent kayaks at a good price. Capt. Bill is a good guy, use him for kayaks.

Family (mom and dad, 2 kids) spent 3 hours off the coast of Stonington, Maine. We boated past lobster traps, Stonington Village, Crotch Island on the way to Mark Island. On the way back we stopped at Green Island for a quick hike and even better, a dip in an old quarry pond. We saw seals, porpoises, and an eagle.... More

The place to go on Deer Isle for kayak, sailing etc. The folks are nice, pleasant and helpful their equipment is in excellent condition. They are very careful and put safety first. They gave us wet suits and life jackets to wear. Most of all the instructor was very very patient, knowledgeable and helpful. I am not a total novice... More

We did a couple of excursions with the Old Quarry and they were both excellent. First, the family kayaking trip was great. They did a good job with those of us who were new to kayaking and the trip guide made it just challenging enough for our family. It was a very foggy day but she found interesting views and... More

We are a 3 generational family that vacations together yearly. While on Deer Isle we all went on the 3 hour Eco island tour. We had great fun, seeing an eagle, seals, and a dolphin. They explained the history of the area to us, pointed out flora and fauna, took us to an island for a hike, and even pulled... More

This is a great spot for camping or lodging in the guest house. You can conveniently rent mountain bikes, kayaks, canoes, etc, all from Captain Bill's complex. A real hidden gem.
