Machias is the most beautiful wild place on the maine coast and Stonington is by far the most beautiful town. But go in late Spring or Summer because t snows from October to May. This town is breathtaking and you must see it!

Stonington is the real deal, with it's edge of the world feel, amazing architecture, history and incredible geography - what's not to like. Stonington has one the largest lobster fishing scenes in the New England, amazing views and waterfront, this town is not to be missed1

Sat at our motel dock and watched the lobster boats unload. Quaint little village to walk around & explore the shops.

Glad that I took time out to see the Pumpkin Island lighthouse on Little Deer Isle, as the weather became foggier and foggier, as I drove closer to Stonington on Deer Isle. Lovely, atmospheric, and foggy scenes in Stonington, especially down by the waterfront, so...More

This picturesque Maine lobster town is what you come to Maine to see--the lobstermen coming in every few minutes with the catch, the men coming from their moored boats on dinghies and walking up the ramp to their pickup trucks, the smell of salt water...More

Hi, We have been to Maine before(Boothbay, Portland, Bar H., Rockland)... but would like to rent an affordable house or apartment for a week or so in July. we are looking at Camden, Stonington, and Castine. Of these which is the best for - strolling through town, swimming, dining etc... we like to walk to town, enjoy the sights on foot. 2 adults, 2 children 6, 10. Suggestions?

The three are quite different towns. Stonington is more like a small Norwegian fishing village. It has walking in town and nice forest trails nearby. You would have many destinations on Deer Isle and north on the Blue... More
