The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad offers a variety of scenic, dining, and specialty excursions throughout the year. Individual and group rates are available for the Mountain Limited, our scenic excursion, as well as Evening Paradise Dinner Trains on Saturday evenings. Also available throughout the year are various specialty and holiday excursions.

*Special Notice*

Despite a landslide that occurred along Western Maryland Scenic Railroad tracks, WMSR will adhere to its 2016 schedule.

Operations will continue with a change to the usual route. Excursions will depart eastward from the Cumberland Station. This will provide guests the opportunity to view the WMSR Shop, where our heritage equipment is restored, maintained, and housed. This is the current site of the C&O 1309 restoration. The train will then head west, traveling past the Cumberland Station to Woodcock Hollow. Guests will have the opportunity to see the most notable landmarks along the route, including Brush Tunnel and Helmstetter’s Curve.

The section of land where the landslide occurred in early 2016 must be stabilized before safe passage can resume to Frostburg. It is the priority of WMSR and the government agencies involved to ensure everyone’s safety.

WMSR would like to thank Allegany County and the surrounding community, as well as its guests, for their continued support. As we look forward to our return to Frostburg, we will continue to provide our guests with fun, memorable experiences aboard WMSR.

This trip is advertised as, "Join us for a magical holiday train ride and a chance to visit with Santa! Your journey includes listening to Christmas music and a story, meeting Santa, and enjoying hot cocoa and cookies." What a disappointment. First of all, the lights were so bright inside the train that we could not see outside AT ALL.... More

For now at least save your hard earned money and look elsewhere for a train ride. This excursion that pretty much stopped in the middle of nowhere was a huge disappointment for all of us.

We hear your disappointment for the layover location at Woodcock Hollow. Until the landslide issues are resolved by the county, we will continue to have a layover at this location. Most of our guests recognize this as an opportunity to stretch their legs along the beautiful Great Allegheny Passage Trail and to take pictures with our diesel engine and caboose... More

We visited this attraction with a large group of family & friends on 11/26/16. On the positive side... the train ride was pleasant although the regular route has been altered due to a landslide on the tracks. Our food was pretty decent. The children had a wonderful time and were surprised by a visit from Santa. On the downside, I... More

Fabulous! Mrs Claus was the best!!! The get a bag of train goodies, get to see Santa after the train. Mrs Claus really spent time with the children and was very affectionate in a grandmotherly way! She was awesome!

Train ride was good. Our car was a little cold. The parking was the worst set up I've ever seen. They need a different way to pay to get out of parking lot.

Thank you for your feedback! I am so sorry about the temperature in the car. We will let our car maintenance team know about the heating issues today. As for the parking, we also offer free parking at a variety of locations within walking distance of the Railway Station. One location is on the corner of Baltimore St. and N... More

Disappointing experience with a bunch of amateur actors doing a very weak show. We rode a few years ago and the local troupe they had was great!! Would not recommend the current group.

This train ride was a pleasant, relaxing experience. The foliage had just fallen off the true when we went, but I do look forward doing this again next year, especially in the summer and spring months. You are even offered the opportunity to return to the original stop of the train via walking or bike ride. Santa made a surprise... More

So, my husband and I took our 9 year old as he is a train fanatic. We got there early for the Friday ride and we were able to walk around the C&O Canal which was pretty neat. We got our tickets at the will call, easy. When you order tickets online there is a high service fee attached which... More

This 2 1/2-hour train ride from Cumberland to Frostburg can be very enjoyable, depending on what you are looking for. Because of a landslide, the train could not go all the way up to Frostburg, but we got to see most of the scenery. The narrative was easy to hear, and provided some history about Cumberland and surroundings, as well... More

The general admission ticket was $45 plus service charge for a total of $51.20. This excursion was definitely not a $51 trip; for what we got, this was no more than a $25, maybe $30 trip. Due to a landslide, the train could not take the normal route so we went an alternate route. I was told that the alternate... More
