The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad offers a variety of scenic, dining, and specialty excursions throughout the year. Individual and group rates are available for the Mountain Limited, our scenic excursion, as well as Evening Paradise Dinner Trains on Saturday evenings. Also available throughout the year are various specialty and holiday excursions.

*Special Notice*

Despite a landslide that occurred along Western Maryland Scenic Railroad tracks, WMSR will adhere to its 2016 schedule.

Operations will continue with a change to the usual route. Excursions will depart eastward from the Cumberland Station. This will provide guests the opportunity to view the WMSR Shop, where our heritage equipment is restored, maintained, and housed. This is the current site of the C&O 1309 restoration. The train will then head west, traveling past the Cumberland Station to Woodcock Hollow. Guests will have the opportunity to see the most notable landmarks along the route, including Brush Tunnel and Helmstetter’s Curve.

The section of land where the landslide occurred in early 2016 must be stabilized before safe passage can resume to Frostburg. It is the priority of WMSR and the government agencies involved to ensure everyone’s safety.

WMSR would like to thank Allegany County and the surrounding community, as well as its guests, for their continued support. As we look forward to our return to Frostburg, we will continue to provide our guests with fun, memorable experiences aboard WMSR.

I think the regular price tickets are a bit overpriced, so buy from 3rd party sellers like Certifikid.com. The experience was ok but it wasn't breathtaking. For young kids, it would be exciting.

I am a local to Cumberland and live right around the corner from the Scenic Train Station. It's very well kept, the train ride is really fun. All of the reviews that say it is bad is due to circumstances beyond the train company's control. They had a landslide take out a section of track, and their steam locomotive had... More

This train ride is a complete ripoff. Takes you through areas with nothing to recommend them. It us supposed to go to Frostburg and then you have 30 minutes to visit shops etc. However because of a track problem the train stops a good distance from Frostburg and you are allowed off the train to walk around the tracks -... Can't understand the Bah-humbug reviews...My husband and I took our 4 year old grandson this weekend (12/10) on the Western Maryland North Pole Train ride to see Santa. He is a lover of trains. We didn't act early enough last year and all rides were sold out. So, this year, I was on the ball. We arrived and tried to... More

Ditto on the last terrible review. Agree with all the negative commentary. We were also very disappointed to find that the "North Pole" experience was just a blow up arch on the side of the railway that we saw for a fleeting moment---most people missed it. This was a 2 hr round trip train ride to nowhere, and the fact... More

We're so sorry to hear you did not enjoy the trip, that is certainly not the way we like to do things around here. You are correct, we do not allow guests off at the "North Pole" as we have in the past, because we are not able to reach our Frostburg Depot this year. We are currently affected by... More

Hello, I'm very sorry to hear you did not enjoy the trip. I do want to clarify, however, that all of our guests are given as much time as they would like to visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus, sit on his lap, and take pictures when we arrive back at the Cumberland train station. This is in addition to... More

This trip is advertised as, "Join us for a magical holiday train ride and a chance to visit with Santa! Your journey includes listening to Christmas music and a story, meeting Santa, and enjoying hot cocoa and cookies." What a disappointment. First of all, the lights were so bright inside the train that we could not see outside AT ALL.... More

For now at least save your hard earned money and look elsewhere for a train ride. This excursion that pretty much stopped in the middle of nowhere was a huge disappointment for all of us.

We hear your disappointment for the layover location at Woodcock Hollow. Until the landslide issues are resolved by the county, we will continue to have a layover at this location. Most of our guests recognize this as an opportunity to stretch their legs along the beautiful Great Allegheny Passage Trail and to take pictures with our diesel engine and caboose... More

We visited this attraction with a large group of family & friends on 11/26/16. On the positive side... the train ride was pleasant although the regular route has been altered due to a landslide on the tracks. Our food was pretty decent. The children had a wonderful time and were surprised by a visit from Santa. On the downside, I... More

Fabulous! Mrs Claus was the best!!! The get a bag of train goodies, get to see Santa after the train. Mrs Claus really spent time with the children and was very affectionate in a grandmotherly way! She was awesome!
