Fascinating look at the history of local wooden boats and how they were built and maintained. If you have or love wooden boats, you'll really enjoy this museum. There are a variety of things to see, the boatbuilding, duck/goose hunting and decoys, the lighthouse, the fishing/clamming industry and the home of Frederick Douglas's sister. We spent about 3 hours. I... More

A museum that just does not always look like a museum! It is large and perfectly situated in the old harbor of St. Michaels, a lovely city. The museum offers a leisurely tour, and many activities and interactions with the friendly staff. They organize courses and workshops and local kids participate in ship building. A must see if in the... More

No trip to St. Michael's is complete without visiting the museum complex to understand the history of the Chesapeake Bay and its people.

Fascinating places with a variety of exhibits about various aspects of life in the Chesapeake. A one day visit morphed into a two day visit. Highly recommended.

Everything about St. Michael's is romantic--the Bed & Breakfasts, the family-owned restaurants where owners ask your story, the beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the sailboat-lined shore, and the quaint shops. My favorite was the used book store with lots of older favorites! Warm, cozy, and inviting community!

A fantastic insight into every aspect of the Bay. Excellent for small children -a lot for them to climb on and touch. Highly informative for adults and great staff.

On a quick trip to St. Michaels, my wife and I read about this Museum and decided to visit it despite the fact that it was closing early (still on winter hours). Though we had less than an hour to see it, we found the visit really worthwhile. We'd assumed this was an indoor museum, but the value of this... More

Little gem, well worth the 90-minute drive from Metro DC in its own right, shows diverse aspects of early life in the Chesapeake. Easy to spend several hours in its exhibits.

Went there in the off season for a fun day with my parents. Had a great time. It was slow enough that the volunteers had time to really start talking to the visitors rather than be on crowd control all the time. Only one of the buildings wasn't open.
